Move On, Now (NCIS, prompt #124)
Title: Move On, Now
Fandom: NCIS
Characters/Pairing: Gibbs/Mann, mentions Jenny/Mann
Rating: PG
Word Count: 183
Challenge/Prompt: #124 - eyes
Summary: "You and Director Shepard, huh?"

"So," says Hollis, trying to keep her tone casual, neutral, "you and Director Shepard, huh?"

"Yep," says Jethro. His voice gives nothing away, but Hollis notes the slightest pause in the rasp of sandpaper on wood.

"Redheads," she says, nodding to herself. She's perched on the basement steps and Jethro is hidden behind the boat's frame. She doesn't need to see his face to have this conversation.

"Sometimes," he says. "Is that a problem?"

"No," she says, "of course not." Attempting not to sound defensive, but, of course, she does. Which, she thinks later, isn't the worst thing in the world. Better to let Jethro think she's jealous and insecure than let him discover the truth.

Which is that it's not Jenny she's jealous of, but Jethro. Because she understands the fevered appeal of a redhead, understands it all too well.

She takes a breath, pushing away thoughts of Jenny's eyes, her skin, her hair, that secret, knowing smile.

Hollis has had enough of fever, of madness. She wants something steady, something normal. She exhales.

"No," she says, again. "No problem at all."
