Keep Dancing (Dead Like Me, prompt #73) Title: Keep Dancing Fandom:Dead Like Me Characters/Pairing: Daisy/Mason Rating: G Word Count: 150 Challenge/Prompt: #73 - promise Summary: Daisy dances, just for a moment.
Daisy dances, just for a moment. She's past thinking she can ever forget, but she can pretend, she can push things to the back of her mind and look into Mason's eyes and make believe.
Under the drunkenness, under the layers of dirt, Mason's actually quite sweet, she muses. He fakes cynicism but often she thinks he's more earnest, more sincere than any of them. More vulnerable, she thinks. More than her, anyway.
She smiles at him, and his eyes light up, his mouth trembles almost imperceptibly. He's making her promises he can't possibly keep, which is what men do, but Mason means what he says. In this moment, anyway, he means it. He's not lying. Not deliberately, at least, not overtly, not like every other man Daisy has met.
Mason's promises may not last longer than their dance, but that's longer than Daisy's ever known.
