First day on the job Who: Lois Lane & Clark Kent What: Clark's first day on the job Where: The Daily Planet When: Early 2011, the day after Clark's interview with Perry White and Superman's first official appearance in-costume Rating/Warnings PG, maybe PG-13 for language
The story that Clark had sent into Perry White had done the trick. He now had employment at the hub of information in Metropolis. Really, the Planet covered worldwide news, so it was the perfect place for someone who wanted to stay in touch with events happening all over the world. Clark dressed carefully for his first day of work-suit and tie, neatly combed hair, glasses. He might look a little like a small town rube who wanted nothing more than to put his best foot forward, but he was okay with that impression. He wasn't ashamed of his upbringing or of the fact that his Midwestern manners might be a little bit out of place in the big city.
Clark arrived twenty minutes early and stepped into the chaos that was the bullpen. Perry White didn't greet him, which was a little bit disappointing. Instead, he just edged around the outside of the room filled with desks, a little uncertain as to where he fit yet.
It appeared that he was on his own for now. That wasn't much different than how he'd spent the last few years, but there was a part of him that had hoped that taking a steady job and finding an apartment of his own would mean that he found a place to call home. A place where he belonged both as Clark Kent and as the hero who wore a red cape and the crest of his home planet. Today's issue had already hit the news stands and Clark's superhearing picked up on more than few conversations and heated debates about whether or not he was to be feared or trusted. He supposed he shouldn't have expected any different, but it hurt just a little bit all the same. He wanted to prove that his intentions were good, but he had yet to figure out just how to do that. These things would take time, he supposed. He just hoped that nobody got hurt because they wouldn't let him help them.
