Do you think you are in the right House? Did you always feel this way?: I found the whole process a little bit intimidating, but maybe that's because it was an awful big choice to make at such a young age and with only the barest of knowledge about the houses. When I stood in front of the house statues, I was chosen for both Thunderbird and Pukwudgie, and I only had a few moments to decide which way to send myself. I do wonder sometimes if things would be different had I chosen Pukwudgie, but usually I'm pretty confident that I made the right choice.

Where do you see yourself in a year? Five years? Ten years?: I don't know, to be honest with you. Wherever the wind blows me, I guess? I know I want to do as much travelling as I can in my lifetime, so in a perfect world, I'll be doing that a year, five years, and ten years from now. I know that might not be practical, though - nothing in life comes free, after all. But if I could make a life travelling, picking up work for a few months here and there in the different places that I go... Well, that doesn't sound like such a bad life to me.

What is something other people think or assume about you that frustrates you? Why?: I think it bothers me more when people make assumptions about my family rather than myself. We're lucky, in Florida. There are a lot of Cubans and Cuban-Americans there, you know? We've got such a wonderful community. It's always such a shock when we're making the trek to Massachusetts at the start of the school year... Some of the looks we get, especially my Pa - well, it just makes me mad, you know? Yeah, he's an immigrant, and so are my Ma's parents, but, you know what? They're just as good as any born American. Just as smart, just as hard-working, just as loyal. People hear us speak and see our skin, and they think the worst, and it drives me insane.

What do you cite as your most impressive talent? Why?: My Pa taught me how to tell the direction based on the sun, and it's pretty much second nature to me now. I'm your go-to girl when you're lost, or when you need directions, and, if I do say so myself, I should always be the first person you call if you're planning on going hiking.

Describe yourself in three words. Elaborate on your choices and explain your reasoning.: This questions always gets me so crazy! How are you supposed to take the entirety of a complex human being and wrap them up in three measly adjectives? You can't! I'm so much more than just three things - everyone is! I am a bisexual Cuban-American woman, and a witch. I'm a daughter, and a granddaughter, and a niece, and a cousin. I'm a student at Ilvermorny, and a member of Thunderbird House. I'm an athlete, and a traveller, and driven to always see things through. I am every piece of my identity, and I'm not done becoming who I'm meant to be.

Who has been your biggest influence and how have they shaped who you are, positive or negative?: I'd feel wrong choosing one over the other, so I guess I'm just gonna have to say my Ma and my Pa. I mean, they both played such an important role in bringing me up, so it only makes sense that they shaped me, you know? They taught me all about what it means to work hard and love even harder, and I think those are the two most important lessons anyone can learn.

How would you like people to remember you after you're gone?: Fondly, of course. Lovingly. With smiles on their faces even if there are tears in their eyes. I want them to know I really am a free-spirit now, and that I'm simply off on my next big adventure - it just so happens that I couldn't take my body along on this one!

Personality;

THREE STRENGTHS AND THREE WEAKNESSES.

Physical fitness: Amara cares a lot about her physique, and she goes to great lengths to keep herself healthy and in peak physical condition. She was always athletic, even as a child, and she loves challenging herself to do better, to surpass her personal best at any given task.

Navigational skills: A born leader, or a born wanderer, Amara isn't really sure, but, either way, the girl is great with a map and a compass. Hell, she doesn't even need the compass that much anymore. Having grown up hiking with her Pa, Amara learned to navigate at a young age. She can gauge (with decent accuracy) directions based on the time of day and the position of the sun in the sky, for example, and will often opt to follow her own estimates rather than checking the compass she always keeps in her backpack. On road trips, she always gets to sit shot-gun, and she only has to look at the map a few times to direct the driver towards their destination. Once, her friends decided to use the GPS instead, so Amara grit her teeth and went with it; it got them so turned around and lost on some back country road in the middle of nowhere, and they all swore never again.

Motivated: When Amara sets her mind on something, she's in it for the long haul. Despite her free-spirited wanderer nature, she's not one to give up on things or to do a half-assed job just to get something finished. She thinks things through, and she keeps her promises - whether they're only to herself or to someone else.

Stubborn: Par for the course with being so motivated, Amara can also be extremely bull-headed. Once her mind is set on something, it's difficult to get her to change it. She tries not to be too unreasonable, but, sometimes... Well, sometimes she just doesn't know when to quit.

Obsessive: At times, Amara can get a little onetrackminded. It's just, when she gets her heart set on something, everything else falls by the wayside, at least for a little while, and it can cause her to be a bit nonchalant towards her peers. In her younger years, she had a few falling-outs with friends because they believed she didn't care very much about what they thought or wanted. It's not that she doesn't care, though; sometimes her current obsession just sort of... eclipses everything else, and she forgets some of the rules of being a social creature.

Vain: She talks a good game about being dedicated to her fitness, but there really is more to it than that. Amara is also very conscious of her looks, sometimes to a fault. She's just as dedicated to her skin care regime as she is to her exercise, and she's the kind of girl who is always reminding people to drink their water. On the upside, if you ever find yourself in need of coconut oil... she's your girl!

History;

PARENTS:

Amrita Guerrero (née Morales); mother, 44, Cuban-American, born in Miami, Florida
Carlito Guerrero; father, 42, Cuban, born in Santa Clara, Cuba, immigrated to Miami, Florida at 18

SIBLINGS: N/A
OTHER NOTABLE FAMILY: N/A

HOMETOWN: Miami, Florida

FIVE NOTABLE MOMENTS FROM YOUR CHARACTER'S PAST

Amara was six the first time she went camping with her family, and she fell in love with it instantly. She loved getting up early to go hiking and getting to breath in all the fresh air that the city lacked. She loved sitting around the camp fire at night, and hearing ghost stories and learning special camping songs. Most of all, she loved seeing the adults in her family so relaxed and carefree, away from the stress of life even for just a few days.

Amara is never really sure when the first time she used magic was. For as far back as she could remember, there were always strange things occurring around her. Sometimes, she caught her mother giving her rather serious looks, and, after a while, her mother began to tell her stories of witches and warlocks at night, rather than her usual bedtime stories. It was with those stories and her history of strange occurrences in mind that Amara started to become conscious of what might be happening to her. It was on a camping trip when she was eight that she first tried to intentionally access what she hoped really was magic. It was after a rainfall that had damped all of their firewood, and none of the others were having any luck starting a fire despite their dry kindling. When Amara asked to try, no one expected the young girl to have any better luck, but Amara felt confident that she could make them a fire. As she set to work, she focused on what she wanted to happen, and called upon whatever was inside her with such an intensity that, to her surprise, it worked! Far more quickly than should have been possible, a strong fire was filling their pit despite the wet wood, and when Amara looked up and met her mother's eyes, there seemed to be a moment of understanding that passed between them, though neither spoke of the incident ever again.

When Amara was nine, her family went on their first vacation outside of Florida and its surrounding states. Rather than exploring the rest of the country, however, they were headed for Europe, where they had plans to spend two weeks of their summer in Spain. Amara fell in love with travelling that summer. The plane, the new sights and people, the feeling that you could be whoever you wanted and no one would know any better - she loved it all, and Amara vowed that when she was old enough to leave home on her own, she was going to see the world.

The day when Amara received her invitation to Ilvermorny was not an unusual day to begin with. The end of the school year was drawing near, and although she had been tempting to join her friends in the park after school, Amara found herself struck by the feeling that she needed to get home. When she did, it was to find her parents letting in an unfamiliar young woman, and Amara had quickly hurried up the driveway, curiosity in her eyes. When the family and their guest had settled comfortably in the sitting room, the woman had begun to speak, telling them that she was a representative from a school for very special children, a school that was requesting Amara be admitted for the upcoming school year. Amara had perked up excitedly, but she'd been surprised to hear a whispered 'I knew it' from her mother, even before the woman had explained more specifically what she meant by "special." It had surprised the woman, then, how easy it was to explain to this no-maj family that their daughter was a witch, but it soon became clear that superstitions were held in high regard by Amara's mother. Amara worried that she would have to beg her parents to let her attend this magical school, but felt an overwhelming sense of relief when her parents simply asked what the next steps would be. Sitting back, Amara allowed herself to daydream about her future in a world of magic while the adults hammered out the details.

In late November of her sixth year, the boy whom Amara had been dating since the end of fourth year decided that it was time to call it quits. He had felt that things were growing "too comfortable," and he feared that he was going to settle without ever experiencing all that his life and his youth had to offer. Amara was left devastated, picking up the piecing of a broken heart that she had not anticipated so soon. She, too, had found their relationship comfortable, but had not viewed that as a bad thing. She had thought she could see a future with this boy, a life after Hogwarts, and she had thought that he felt the same way. There are still days where Amara can feel her heart aching in her chest, but time, and especially the distance when the summer came around, had both helped her in her attempts to move on.

OOC Info;

NAME: Nick
AGE:
CONTACT:
TIME ZONE: CST

MADE BY TESSISAMESS

</lj-raw></lj-cut>
