polar vortex chic (OR: how i learned to stop worrying and enbrace lung-shattering cold)
right, okay friends, so for 99.9% of the united states (percentages may not be accurate), it is what the experts call Cold As Balls outside. i fully admit that for most of this week, i've been rocking what is termed as "desperate to survive chic," partially because i've had an ear infection and it is really difficult to care about yr couture when you have an ear that threatens to knock you out every so often. but the past few days, i've actually been rocking warm and cute so i thought i'd share today's outfit as well as my outerwear in toasty solidarity with friends. ch-ch-check it out underneath this dope-ass lj cut.
right okay, so admittedly i wish i would've shown you yesterday's outfit for this, but it's a variation of what i generally lean towards doing during The Freezing as Shit Hours, which is a preppy sweater-over-buttondown look. reason: it integrates two layers into an outfit organically and you can generally figure out that hey, dude, the reason this person looks kinda bulky is because of that shirt-sweater thing and not because of ~unseen bullshit~. although note, there is a lot of unseen bullshit in this outfit, listed in order of it being put on the bod: tank top, leggings (GALAXIES ARE ON MY CROTCH!!!), knee socks, rag socks, button-up, tan pants, sweater, boots! i wish i could say that i was bringing my accessorizing game, but lol no.
hmm as to where things have come from: pretty sure 50% of this look (read: leggings, pants, probably socks) is from target, with the rest from grab bag places like Christmas Gifts, american eagle (the button-up -- can you tell that there is some cute ruffle action all up in that? who knew, american eagle, who knew), etc. the "big item" are my boots -- they're from clarks because my feet are flat and persnickety, but i managed to get them for just under $100 because outlet malls are my life. (does anyone outlet mall shop in tys? just curious.)
now to THE OUTERWEAR!! a lot of this shit is a combo of outlet mall finds and crafting, although my little black-and-teal beanie is a target find. the coat is legit My First Adult Coat (which god, does that make me really sad or really thrifty for keeping the other one around for four years?), a find at the levi's outlet mall and it's surprisingly warm: quilted interior, thick wool, very lovely parka hood that isn't up in the picture, etc. although i'm kind of considering getting a more utilitarian down coat this weekend if this weather's going to keep up, i'm still pretty chuffed with how it's been holding up in the weather given the proper layering. also, i have to say that it might be slightly too forward for indiana, but whatever. at least i get to boast about it with you guys here!
gloves: g.w. bass outlet, cowl and fuzzy headband underneath my beanie: homemade. p.s.: would totally encourage this tip: get a headband that can discretely fit under a hat if you have sensitive ears like me -- it's seriously been the difference during these ridiculous cold snaps, and my earaches have only improved as opposed to gotten worse, so h o l l a!! a+ would recommend again for anyone living in Antarctica's Armpit.
so that is basically it y'all, real talk. does anybody else have any cool Winter Fashion Tips to share with the class? i keep on hearing about these fleece lined tights but haven't gotten anything yet, TO MY DETRIMENT SIGH. please tell me all sempai, chinhands.jpg etc.
ETA: today, i bought not one but five pairs of fleece-lined leggings that i found at tj maxx for $5-6.
