James decided during their hug that if he were convicted of a crime, and sent to Azkaban to await his punishment, his last request would be Lily Evans' arms around him just like it they were now. Because James couldn't think of anything more comforting than her warmth. He held her as long as he could, and looked in her eyes.
"Oh, r-right, yes. Not thinking about that. I mean. In case I get over-enthusiastic, that's what I mean..." He melted a little when she leaned up to kiss him. His heart was thumping wildly in his chest. "Hogsmeade! Yes of course I am! I've wanted to take you for years now..." He couldn't help but remember back in fifth year, when he had planed out their entire first date since he was so sure Lily was going to say yes to him.
He would be wearing his nice clothes, all neat and pressed out with a quick de-wrinkling spell from Remus. (And a small box of chocolates) He even had a special cologne for the event, that he thought smelt divine, but Sirius made sure to tell him he smelt like crap.
James would have waited in the common room for Lily, and they'd go to Hogsmead, arm in arm. And she'd fall in love with him over dinner. It seemed like a fail proof plan, until Lily, quite physically, told him to shove off. And he shoved off. Down the three steps near the castle doors and into the mud (Thanks to Snape) and messed up his clothes. This, of course lead to James hexing Snape into the lake again, and got him detention. And no Hogsmeand.
