Who]: Lily Evans, Marlene McKinnon, Alice Edwards
[When]: September 24, 1977; evening
[Where]: Lily's room
[What]: Lily has called an emergency girl meeting after the events of last week.
Lily paced the floor of her room. Back and forth, back and forth, her worn slippers scuffing across the carpet. Every so often she ran an anxious hand through her long red hair, irritated with it for continuing to fall so stubbornly into her eyes. Marlene and Alice were due any minute and Lily hoped to Merlin that James wasn't downstairs when she went to let them in.
She had been determinedly avoiding James ever since they had kissed in the broom cupboard. It was a hard thing to do, since they shared compartments, Head duties, and several classes, but Lily was doing an admirable job. She made sure they were never in the Common Room at the same time, excusing herself quickly if they happened to cross paths. She had made up the next month's Prefect duties by herself and left the schedule downstairs for James to look at. And, she had not acknowledged his existence in any of their classes.
He was hurt by it, she could tell, but she still didn't know what to do. She knew James was probably expecting that their relationship would progress beyond friendship now. But Lily wasn't sure if taking that step was such a good idea.
True, she certainly did fancy James now. He was warm and compassionate and funny and he made her heart do flip-flops more often than she cared to admit. But Lily could not help the doubts that still pervaded her mind.
There were only three people she felt comfortable confessing these doubts to, and two of them were on their way to see her.
