Who: Dominic and Katya
What: Surprises
When: 01.07.13 - Monday, Lunchtime
Where: Duskwood High School
Warnings: None, save for some flirting.
Kids always wanted to get out of gym. There was a plethora of reasons for them wanting to do so but it got annoying when you ended up running out of schedule change forms before the day was even through. Dominic decided to head up to the office to grab a stack of the damn things but was met with a surprise when he entered the office. Either Katya had a twin, he was dreaming, or his dream girl was sitting behind the desk in the front office. He walked up to the desk and bent down a little, leaning against it and smirking. "Excuse me, miss," he said, the grin widening the moment she looked up. "Have we met?"
Katya was stressed. It was her first day, and she already hated it. Mostly because of the looks she was getting from the other secretaries. Sorry, administrative assistants. Like it was her fault she was under 40, not fat, and didn’t get her hair out of a bottle. Inwardly cursing her dad for even getting her the job, she was poking at the computer and frowning when she caught a familiar scent. Nah. Couldn’t be. Sighing, she looked up, fixing a polite smile on her face before she’d even clocked who it was.
Blinking at him, she arched an eyebrow. “Are you stalking me?” She said, in a husky tone, keeping her voice low. Like she needed more attention from the other women in the office; she knew damn well what small towns were like. This’d be round the whole town by dinner, and her mom would be phoning her up, demanding to know when Katya’d planned on telling her she had a boyfriend.
"Funny," he said, his voice just as quiet as hers. He knew that the women were all looking, they always did. They were older and lonely and stuck in marriages that sucked. He ignored them in favor of Katya and went on with his thought process. "I was going to ask you the same thing," he teased. "Seeing as I work here. But apparently now so do you. I think I like my coworkers a little better now though I'm not sure if this qualifies as an office romance," he teased, flashing her a grin. "Today must be your first day because I know that I'd have recognized you otherwise," he said, resisting the urge to lean closer and kiss her. He missed the way she tasted to say the least but knew better than to start a rumor flying bigger than the ones likely already forming.
Katya narrowed her eyes at him. Yeah, he wasn’t helping. That grin was making her think Very Bad Thoughts. Clearing her throat gently, she folded her hands on the table, chin tilted up, trying to look professional. Like it’d matter, considering he could smell her. And he looked just as good as he had in the bar. Better, even, considering he wasn’t looking like he wanted to rip someone’s head up. “You seem awfully sure of yourself,” she purred, smirking at him just a little. “Maybe I’ve been here for months, and you just haven’t seen me....”
He shook his head a little. "Please," he said. "You're gorgeous, leggy and you smell like heaven. I'd have noticed you or my nose would have carried me in sooner rather than later." Dominic was feeling much better with the weekend and the break-up behind him, despite the half a dozen calls he'd gotten from Holly since that night. He'd ignored the majority of them and sent the rest to his voicemail before promptly deleting the messages without listening. Talking wasn't happening. He had many other things to occupy his time like the pretty little blonde before him now. "I hope this job of yours means that you'll be sticking around town."
“I guess you’ll just have to make it worth my while, won’t you....” she breathed, quietly enough that she knew the other admins wouldn’t be able to hear her, but Dom’s wolf hearing should be able to pick it up just fine. Sitting back, she crossed her legs under the desk, the rasp of silk stockings just another way of teasing him. He was fun, and she was definitely enjoying her work more now she had something to look at.
The way her stockings moved against each other as she crossed her legs gave him a mental image even if he couldn't see her legs from where he was standing. She knew exactly what she was doing, knew that she was teasing him. Hell, they both did. Dominic didn't really mind, however, because the teasing was just fine by him. She could tease all she wanted, purring in that gorgeous voice of hers, the hint of a rasp to it that made his hair stand on end on the back of his neck. "I suppose I will," he agreed. "You got plans for your lunch break?" he asked.
Katya laughed softly. “It’s my first day, moy volk,” she breathed. “No, I don’t have plans. I know I’m not gonna be eating in the cafeteria....” Unless it had changed drastically since she’d gone to school there, which she doubted. And the staffroom definitely wasn’t for her. “Why, you going to treat me?” She set her chin on her hand, looking up at him, her lips curving up into a wicked smile. Yeah, she knew exactly what he had in mind. And a lunchtime quickie sounded like fun.
He grinned at her words, nodding a little. "I think a little time with you would be a treat for me," he told her. "Come on, kitten, let's get out of here for a little while." His mind was running along the same lines, a lunchtime quickie. If he thought he could pull it off without getting caught, which he did, and she was willing, why the hell not?
“Now?” She said, sitting back. “I’ll have to find someone to take over...” Pushing back from the desk, she stood up, smoothing down her skirt. “I’ll be right back,” she promised in that throaty voice of hers, stepping into the back office, her hips swaying as she walked. She was wearing a pencil skirt and high heels - he’d be enjoying the view, she was sure. A few minutes later she reappeared, jacket and purse slung over her arm, just in case they went outside. “Where’re we going?” She asked, rounding the edge of the desk and stepping in close to him.
He nodded again, letting her find someone to take over her position for a little while and when she returned, he grinned. With her body so close to his, it was hard to not lean in more, to kiss her or hold her body against his own. "Depends," he told her. "On if you're really hungry for food or not," he smirked, offering out his arm for her to take and trying to decide where they should go. It really depended on her and what she wanted to do. They didn't have a great deal of time, after all, but it wasn't that they needed all that much. "We can grab a bite, maybe talk a little," he offered. "We didn't get to talk much last time we were together," he teased.
She slid her hand around his arm, smiling as she headed towards the door with him. “I could eat,” she purred. “Long as I know I’m gonna work off the calories later....” Not that she really cared about calories, but teasing him about what they were gonna do later? Yeah, that was fun. “What’re you doing tonight?” She asked, as they stepped out the main doors, into the weak winter sunshine. “Want me to come over and help you relax a little?”
Dom couldn't help but grin at her questions. "I'm the football coach and gym teacher," he told her. "I'll make sure you work off any calories you might take in," he assured her as they headed towards the parking lot and his truck. As for that last question and the offer of her helping relax, he liked that. "I could get used to that sort of relaxing," he told her, eyes flicking to her as they reached his vehicle. "So do I get a last name now?" he asked as he opened the passenger door for her and carefully lifted her up and into the truck. "You've got mine, it's only fair."
Katya laughed, stroking her hand over his shoulder as he lifted her into the truck. “ Ekaterina Dubrovski,” she replied. “Bit of a mouthful, so I go by Katya.” The only person who called her ‘Ekaterina’ was her mom, and that was only when she was pissed off at her. Which admittedly was pretty often right now. Setting her bag and jacket on the floor, she buckled up as he walked around and got in the driver’s side. “So, where’re you taking me for lunch?” She murmured, turning a little to look at him.
He liked her name. It was exotic and beautiful the same as she was. Fitting if nothing else. As he pulled his seat belt across his lap and started the car up he shrugged a little. "I know a quaint little diner not far from here," he offered up. "It's not very fancy, but the food is good and the service is fast so you won't get in too much trouble for being late," he told her as he pulled out of the parking lot. "I'll have to save the romantic restaurants for dinners that I don't have time restraints on." He fully intended to spoil her in any way that he could if she happened to be willing. "Maybe tonight you'll let me cook dinner for you," he said, eyes flicking to the woman. "Got a favorite dish?"
Katya reached out, miming pinching herself. “All that, and you cook?” She teased. “I think I died and went to heaven...” She stretched her legs out a little, sighing as she relaxed for the first time all day. Looking over at him, she took advantage of the fact he was driving to stare a little, get a good look at him. “So how long’ve you been working at the school?” She asked, tilting her head.
He chuckled a little at her words. "I cook," he said nodding. "I'm Italian. My mother practically raised me in the kitchen." He spent many evenings perched up on the countertop as a little boy watching his mother make homemade lasagna or stuffed shells and memorizing the way she moved about in the kitchen. Those were some of his favorite memories and each time he made a meal himself and took the time to prepare it the way she did, those memories came back. "This is my fifth year at DHS," he told her. "It's fun though. I mean I get paid to tell kids what to do. It's kinda fun," he teased, glancing over at Katya. "What made you decide to be a receptionist?"
Katya snorted softly. “My dad,” she admitted. “I made the stupid mistake of a)coming home for Christmas, and b) admitting that I was between jobs. So he fixed this up for me. I didn’t really get a choice in the matter.” Shrugging, she looked at the road ahead. “It’s money, that’s all that matters, right?” And if she tried it, and hated it, she could at least say she’d given it a shot before packing up her car and moving on. Though the thought of moving on was looking less tempting, with Dom around.
"Money's money," he agreed. "Think you might stick around Duskwood?" he asked, hoping the question wasn't too forward but being curious about whether or not she'd end up staying. He wasn't looking forward to her rushing off, but he knew she lived at the hotel so he wasn't setting up roots in this situation whatsoever. He was smarter than that. Maybe not by much, but he was. "Might want to get yourself out of that hotel if you plan on it," he suggested.
She shrugged, trying to play it cool, at least a little. “Not sure yet,” she murmured. “Last time I left this town I swore I was never coming back. Ending up here again wasn’t part of the plan.” Her smile was a little rueful. “But then again, the plan was to be a rich and famous celebrity by now, so you know...” she shrugged, able to laugh at herself at least.
As he pulled into the diner and parked the car, Dom pondered over what she'd said. "Well, I hope you find the town a little less dreadful this go around," he told her, climbing out of the car and heading around to help her down. "I know I don't mind having something pretty to look at through the winter," he grinned, setting her down beside the truck and letting his eyes linger on hers for a moment. "Come on, snowflake, let's get you out of the cold."
Katya had to laugh at his last comment, resting her hands on his shoulders as he helped her out of the truck, his hands sliding down over his chest as he set her on the ground. “I’m a snow leopard,” she pointed out in a low voice. “Cold’s not really a problem.” Reaching up, she tugged him down, tilting her chin up until their lips nearly-but-not-quite touched. “I go running in the snow,” she breathed. “In my cat form...most of the time. Sometimes I just go out into the woods and shift back, feel the snow against bare skin....” she shivered, a little exaggeratedly, letting her lips brush his, feather-light, before pulling back.
It was hard not to feel like he wanted to jump her right there. It was all her fault being so fucking sexy and talking about snow and bare skin. The kiss didn't help. Not when it was so light and so quick. He shuddered a little himself. "Maybe we'll have to go for a run sometime," he commented, smirking a little at that thought, aching for it to become a reality.
“Maybe we will,” she replied, smirking just the same as him. She slipped her hand round his arm, tucking herself in against his side as they walked towards the diner, loving the excuse of a slippery, snow-slick parking lot to hold on tight to him. She was fighting the urge to rub her cheek against his arm, cuddle in against him. It was a new - and slightly unsettling - experience, having her leopard be just as into a guy as her more human side was. Right now she couldn’t bring herself to worry. Not when he smelled and looked as good as he did.
Dante was having just as hard a time trying not to rub against her, kiss her until their lips were rosy and tender from too much liplocking. He didn't know what sort of hold this woman had gotten on him, but he knew well and good that Katya's claws had somehow found their way into his heart. He wasn't going to admit it, not just yet, but he knew. The wolf wouldn't give her up without a fight. Now if he could just keep himself from admitting that from the get go. One step at a time was going to be the way he'd have to go and for now he just had to make it through the lunch hour.
