Reasons for recommending: I don't even really know why I like this story so much. Maybe because it's unconventional. Maybe because it's so very Qui-Gon. Maybe because I've always had a weakness for stories set by the sea.
The story is short, but there's a lot of backstory in it. Qui-Gon is bitter and lonely, his doubts about and resentment of the Jedi code, his choice of a simple life, all rings very true for his character. It's also very much a mood piece, and well, I love mood pieces.
The story is part of a series, most of Hth's other stories in the archive are also part of that series, but you can read it as a stand-alone.
Also, I very much wanted to rec this because I've never seen it recced before, and I think that's a shame, because as far as TPM mood pieces go, this is one of my favourites.
