Apprentice to Journeyman by Susan Smithson

So I haven't been home, or anywhere near a computer, for the last three Sundays. I didn't want to infringe on anyone else's day, so today you're getting recs all in a row until I'm caught up. Get a soda and settle in. *g*

Reasons for recommending: When Susan posted this story, I felt like I was finally reading the story I'd been waiting for since the fandom began. It's very long, luxuriously slow and sweet as she takes us through Obi-Wan's growing years, Qui-Gon's teaching of him, and the delicious development of their love, all in a context of Jedi life and learning that feels as authentic as anything I've seen in the fandom.

Reasons for recommending: All of Kass and Kate's TPM work is top notch, but the Exiles series is my personal favorite. They take us fifteen years in the future - Qui-Gon is alive, but the Jedi still fell, and he and Obi-Wan now live in hiding on Tatooine. The writing is beautiful, the emotions are poignant, and the universe is well-drawn and absorbing.

This quote is a segment from "Home," my favorite story of the series.

Reasons for recommending: "Anchor" is dark, hot, sweet, bizarre, and utterly compelling. Ladonna's writing is vivid and unique, and this story will stay with you long after you've read it.

And we're done for the week. Sorry to end on the less-than-cheerful. *g*

Reasons for recommending: This is another Dead Padawan Society story (just so you know what you're getting into), and my personal favorite of the bunch. Obi-Wan realizes that he can't fulfill his promise to Qui-Gon after all -- but he can fulfill his duty to the Jedi. It's chilling, heartbreaking, and so very good.
