Who: Sharon Carter & Dean Winchester.
When: Tuesday November 24th, about an hour after this.
Where: Dean's apartment in the lodge.
What: Sharon stops by to tell Dean that Jo is gone.
Rating: TBD, but I'd expect language and possibly some other dark shit.
Status: Incomplete/ongoing.

Sharon had suspected before she even started looking into it that she wouldn't find her missing roommate. It was hard to tell in Breck if someone was missing or just gone, but more often than not, missing meant sent home. This didn't fit the pattern of random abductions, such as it was. There were no others missing and these things usually went in groups. People being sent home, though, that was unpredictable at best. Sometimes it was one person, something it was multiples. Either way, when someone went missing in Breckenridge, there was a pretty high likelihood that they'd been sent back.

She put some people on it, anyway, sending some out to hit the streets while she enlisted some magical help as well. She'd experienced enough, especially since coming here, to know that sometimes magic could help. It could provide answers more traditional means couldn't. It could provide them faster, at any rate, and she'd promised Dean she would have something within the hour. Now she was on her way to his apartment with those answers, but it wasn't anything he wanted to hear. It wasn't news she was really looking forward to delivering.

Sharon walked briskly down the hallway toward Dean's apartment, hardly noticing when she started to smooth imaginary wrinkles and barely cognizant of pulling the tie from her hair, letting it fall around her shoulders. Wanting to look good for Dean Winchester, even on a subconscious level was stupid. Which is why she wasn't acknowledging any lingering attraction she might be feeling for her friend. That's what he was. That's probably what he was going to need now.

She steeled herself for the task of telling him Jo was gone, careful not to show any emotion on her face as she raised her hand to knock on his door. Sharon was pretty sure some part of Dean already knew what she was going to tell him, but she still didn't want it to be obvious on her face before she found the word to tell him what she'd learned in the past 55 minutes.

In the hour that Sharon had been digging up whatever information she could, Dean did some digging of his own. He checked every place in Breck that Jo would have visited and even got into her apartment to scan her laptop for any clues. In his life, whenever something bad happened, it was always the worst case scenario, so he had no doubt that she was just gone, just like Sharon had said, but he had to be sure. He had to follow through before he jumped straight to panic mode. He treated this like any other case. Maybe she just needed a break from this pace and went on a road trip or something. It wouldn't be too surprising. Yet the more he he delved into the matter, the less clues he came up with. Just like everyone had been saying, it was like she vanished.

He headed back to his apartment, thankful that his roommates were out. He cracked open a bottle of Tullemore Dew and poured himself a glass as the reality of everything slowly started to sink in. He'd only had a few sips when he heard a knock at the door. Not wasting any time, he got up and answered it, both relived and anxious to see Sharon standing there. He moved aside to let her in. "What'd you find?"

Sharon hesitated in answering his question, just for a moment, as she stepped into the apartment he shared with Dimitri and Alicia. Making a house call wasn't something she would have have done for a lot of people. Most, she would have just called to her office. Dean was different, though. He was someone she considered to be a friend. On top of that, Jo had been her roommate. That made this case personal.

"It took her less than a minute to glance around the apartment before her gaze landed back on Dean again. "I'm sorry, Dean. We didn't find anything. Even with magic... she's not anywhere we could trace." She couldn't say for certain that Jo had returned home, but that was the implication. That was the assumption they made in cases like these. It was possible that something else was going on, too, but without any other disappearances, it was unlikely. Most probably, the portal had just sent her back. Likely the the exact point she'd left from, which meant she'd gone back to die. It didn't take a rocket science to know how hard Dean would take that.

Her words were like a punch to a gut, knocking the wind out of him. Dean's eyes went unfocused and looked away as the full weight of reality of the situation came crashing down. "She went back." It wasn't a question. They both knew the answer. He walked away, feeling grief and anger well up in him. He found his glass of whiskey and downed the rest of it before slamming it back on the counter. A small crack formed in the glass under the pressure. "Twice I've failed her. Twice I couldn't save her." He finally turned to Sharon, defeat in his eyes. "Thanks for coming out here." He didn't know what else to say. The only thing he felt now was guilt.
