Melisande arrived promptly on time, as she always did for events.Though she wasn't fond of social events, she always like the balls Lord Hurst threw. He invited some interesting people. Melisande hoped to have a good conversation with someone interesting.
She'd had a new gown made especially for the event. This one had cost her father a significant amount more than her previous gowns, but she was in the mood to upstage Patience Hurst, who according to the dress maker, had been in for a fitting the same day as Melisande. She stood off near a wall, and surveyed the crowd, trying to decide who might provide her with some entertainment and who she might like to avoid.
