Pride Goeth Before a Fall Subject: Lost in Cheapside Who: Eliza Ferrars Where: Cheapside Warnings: TBA Open To: All
Eliza had always prided herself at having forgotten the topography of the shadier bits of London. After all, she had little occasion to go there. It was more important to know which parks to go to, which parties to attend, which shops to frequent. Eliza could walk through Mayfair and Covent Garden blind-folded, but as soon as she set foot iout of them, to call on her cousins....
She scowled beneath her veil (attached to a still-fashionable tricorne hat) and glanced down a filthy street. It looked the same as all the other filthy streets. Damn her for not carrying enough coin on her to buy both the veiled hat (well, she certainly couldn't be recognized by someone's servant while in Cheapside- she had her reputation to think of), and to pay for a Hackney cab home to her cozy little home on Green Street, in Mayfair.
Well, nothing to it. Eliza pulled up her skirts, careful not to further dirty her petticoats or the train of her gown, and tried to step over the curb-
-before realizing there was huge puddle of filthy, multicolored liquid beside it. What a horrible impasse. Eliza stood with her skirts well above the ankles, in a horribly disruptable part of town, trapped on a filthy streetcorner, too proud to turn from her chosen course back to her uncle's, where she could at least ask for directions.
"Watch it!" Someone shouted, shoving past her, with a large basket full of shopping.
Eliza toppled into the puddle, soaking her blue-stripped robe a la turque, her silk stockings, and all her lawn petticoats. She groaned.
