Aimé gasped before he could stop himself, not having expected to see Antoine in the hallway. He forced himself not to look surprised or frightened of his brother. He thought wildly for some excuse to give Antoine for what reason he had been here that was not the truth, but it must be obvious.
Perhaps it was better to tell the truth and accept whatever punishment Antoine had for him than lie and compound his folly. "I was just visiting Monsieur Dupont. I wanted to be sure he was feeling better." He said, trying to make it sound as if he had been nothing more than a concerned friend.
