Katherine immediately regretted the decision to confirm Eward's price, for the second she'd quieted she had known that it was in him to bend promises at his discretion and to his liking. And it was just like him to be deranged and trying and greedy. Which was exactly how he was being. Damn her for being so inquisitive, not just accepting!
There was only once answer in her head. There was nothing to do but agree. But that meant conceding to Eward's will, and that thought disquieted Katherine. She shifted her feet, but the heat was almost unbearable beneath her heavy cloak now. But she'd not remove it, least of all if she had to fulfill the payment to Eward.
Carefully, her heart racing, Katherine nodded ever so slightly. "All right," she confirmed, her voice barely above a whisper. "All right."
