Through the world of light and lies, I did it for only one thought
It was foolish pride that lead Floyd into the world of forever after. He’d only gone in for her. He’d heard things, rumors, whispers…They may have fooled him, lured him in with sweet promises. “For you we’ll do anything…” they tempted. “We’ll give her life eternal…” but it was worth the risk. Tomorrow they were battling more demons, more monsters, things that he was afraid they wouldn't survive this time.
The first time they’d appeared he’d tossed a pillow at them and went back to sleep, crushed up against Etienne, trying to keep warm in the cold stone of their castle home.
The second time he had watched. The loveliness they expounded was true. It wasn't with a lusty fascination he had laid quietly in the bed, eyes open…blinking and the rest of him still and silent.
But, the third time…the third time was when they had made promises. These sprites dressed in whispers and spilled dreams had piqued his interest and he had risen, silent – had thrown on a loose robe and had gone after them into the woods, over the ring of toadstools and into the cave entrance.
In hindsight he should have awoken Etty, let her know that he would be back but he hadn't known. It had only been an impulse of need that had him sprinting along behind the bouncing sources of ethereal light. On the other side though, they were far less persuasive with their promises. The fairies feasted and flirted and he knew he’d been duped. They’d lied. They’d wanted HIM and nothing more. He clutched the jewelry in his pocket and asked subtle questions, tried his charm, made suggestions of his own. Floyd had a bit of their wine as he spilled their tale, their love story and after two hours of conversation he had convinced them to lead him to the enchanted spring.
Love was a magical force. The reason for everything. That's what the Sprites had told him. They pitied him and her and finally swore to help them.
It was here that he plunged the necklace in to the water of forever, with their promise that as long as his bride wore the necklace that they would be together forever. There were rules…things they said while they kissed him, tried to get him out of his clothes but he couldn't recall it all. It was difficult to deter them but he did and rushed back to the entrance…
But when he emerged?
It wasn’t anything he’d ever imagined.
Floyd was on a different world, in a galaxy…far…far away.
