Jared glanced back in surprise, his eyes blinking from behind his glasses. He was about to tell Evan that, no—he hadn't been, but he realized that Evan was right. It all came back to him in a rush, including the part where Evan had wet himself. He chose to look away at that moment, pretending that he hadn't recalled that bit of history.
Honestly, he'd felt bad back then. It was the one time Evan had done something embarrassing that Jared hadn't wanted to bank on, even back then. Definitely not now, for obvious reasons. Well, obvious to Jared and probably no one else, but the reasons were still there.
He waved Evan deeper into his home, making his way into the kitchen by cutting through the living room. A big screen television sat in a large entertainment center on the far wall, two matching couches and a lazy boy chair facing it on the opposite wall, a coffee table right in front of the middle couch. Victorian country style decor took up most of the house. Not really Jared's taste, but you know, he didn't pay the bills so not really his call.
Glancing behind him, Jared watched the other boy, making sure he was following. "Come on, dude," he said, urging him along. "I'm not gonna be able to carry this liquor up all by myself, my fabulous muscles aside." He threw a teasing—and definitely flirtatious—wink Evan's way, before facing foward once more. He stopped by the answering machine his parents were still so bound and determined to use, pressing play and rolling his eyes as his mother reminded him to eat and wash his clothes and clean his room, and you know—generally, live.
"As if I'm not 18 years old and about to move out on my own," he said with a snort, tossing an incredulous look Evan's way. "See, Ev. Your mom's not the only one who worries. I mean, sure, my mom's nothing like yours, but she still worries. Anyway..." he turned back to the answering machine as she continued on, finally telling him to have a fun time with Evan and not to get into too much trouble. Jared blushed and quickly pressed delete.
Unfortunately, there was one other person besides Jared that knew about his crush on Evan. Well, he hadn't ever actually confirmed it with her, but she knew he was gay and she was forever on about the fact that Evan would make such a nice boyfriend and it was obvious Jared cared about him these days, and she was so glad he'd finally come around to at the very least, making a friend out of him.
He made a show of striding over to the cabinet above the stove that held the alcohol. He flashed a conspiratorial grin at his friend as he opened the doors to display the liquor that would fuel tonight's fun.
"Duh duh dunnnn," he said, waving his arms as if he was Vanna White, showing off a brand new car.
