Biting the bullet
So, as admin of this comm, I suppose I'll be the first one to post here. You guys can post here, right? I didn't screw something up and make it impossible for you to post, did I?
Anyway! Without further ado, I give you this short story.
Title: Expressed in Song:
Author: Leianora
Genre: slash
Pairing: Jack/Ianto
Rating: PG, but only because there's a little bit of nakedness and a kiss.
Summary: Ianto learns something about Jack while they're relaxing and enjoying a well deserved day away from Torchwood.
The shower started, and he smiled to himself. He felt very relaxed, thanks to Jack.
"I can promise you, once I'm finished, you won't want to do anything, or go anywhere for the rest of the day, Mr. Jones," he'd said, smirking in that knowing way of his.
He'd been right, as usual.
Ianto closed his eyes and finally allowed himself to admit that he was content. Grief still gnawed at his soul from time to time, he supposed it always would, but it was growing fainter, like the sound of a car motor speeding away into the night on a quiet country road.
Frowning, he forced his mind away from that dangerous line of thought. Going down that path right now would not be a good idea at all. As if he were trying to aid him, Jack's voice came through the closed bathroom door. He wasn't speaking, however; he was singing.
Ianto sat up and stared in amazement. His eyes were wide open, and his lips parted in a silent O. The astonished delight on his face was apparent for anyone to see. He'd had no idea that his boss knew how to sing; though he supposed it shouldn't have surprised him. The man could do just about everything else. Jack's past was so filled with questions and mysteries that none of them would ever be able to say with any certainty that they truly knew him. Yet, here he was, listening to the captain, this man whom he'd silently sworn to follow anywhere, singing as if his heart would break if he didn't release some of the joy contained therein immediately. The pure openness of that voice nearly brought Ianto to tears. The tenderness and sweet beauty he heard, even through the sounds of running water and the distorted echoes of the bathroom door and walls, caused a lump to form in his throat. The fact that he, and he alone was being given the privilege of seeing his captain expressing himself so openly made him smile. He was still smiling when the water stopped and the door opened, revealing Jack in all his naked glory, a towel wrapped around his head, and water dripping from his still damp body.
"You look like you're a million miles away," he commented.
"Your song took me there," Ianto replied, speaking before he could stop to think of how his words would be received. He glanced up quickly, hoping that he hadn't ruined the moment, but Jack was gazing at him, a slow, gentle smile coming to his lips.
"I take it you liked it, yeah?" he asked softly.
"Yeah," Ianto replied, rising and closing the distance between them.
"Mmm," Jack murmured, sliding his arms around Ianto's shoulders and pulling him tightly against his naked body. "I'm glad. I've always loved that song."
Ianto breathed deeply, sighing and letting his own arms slip around Jack's waist. "I didn't hear the song," he confessed a bit ruefully. "I was too busy listening to your voice."
Jack chuckled. "I suppose I should be flattered," he said.
Ianto tilted his head back and grinned. Without saying another word, he leaned in and pressed his lips to Jack's. Jack, still smiling, eagerly returned the kiss, gently pushing his tongue against Ianto's lips until his lips parted, granting him entry inside.
As they kissed, Ianto's mind replayed that gorgeous voice, and the tune, what little he could recall. He didn't remember any of the words, but he knew that he would never forget the tune, or the sincere, gentle honesty of that voice for the remainder of his days.
