Tony stepped through the doors into the ROTC office, sunglasses pulled off and slipped back into the inner pocket of his suit jacket, a longer, more casual black jacket worn over blue suit shirt and a loosely worn black tie. Making his way towards the front desk, he smirked and leaned forward with hand resting on the desk, looking to the young man behind the desk, “Captain Rogers’ office please?” The man blinked and looked up at him, nodding his head and pointing to Captain Rogers’ office, “But he might be busy sir…” “Oh, I think he’ll be fine. He’ll want to see this, plus you’ll be busy calling this number,” offered Tony as he set down a number, next to a picture, “Name’s January. Probably not her actual name though, if I’m honest. She doesn’t care though, just call her, take her some place nice, talk about her hair, she’s got a soft spot for men in uniform.” Winking, he then turned away and down the hallway, “Don’t worry, she’s not a prostitute. Look her up, last year’s Angel of the year or, whatever the hell it is Victoria’s Secret models get.” Then Tony stepped through Steve Rogers’ office door, and looked to the man behind the desk with hands spread open, “Captain Rogers, as I live and breathe, doing alright without the rotary phones?” He grinned and stepped forward before offering a hand, “Tony Stark. Might have heard of me.” That morning was military fitness around the school. He'd drilled the students that signed up for the course with running exercises and a few of them, by the end, looked like they were rethinking coming back the next day. It was those that Steve took aside to encourage, because the ones that seemed to do things fine didn't need him telling them they could do it. After the class ended around 7 in the morning, Steve showered and went to his office within the small ROTC headquarters at the Stark school. Steve wasn't one for a desk job, but sometimes it was nice to sit and do some reading. Or in this case, watching Netflix, the service that many people insisted he use to catch up on all the shows and movies deemed important for his adjustment into 21st century earth. He'd been doing this for seven years and still felt he was in need of catching up. His computer finished playing Wayne's World, a movie he didn't feel was that imperative to his adjustment, as Tony came walking into his office. He closed his computer, putting it to sleep. "I have," Steve said, gauging Tony warily, "and as far as I know, knocking on the door is still considered polite in today's society." He stood and reached forward to take Tony's hand, "I didn't expect to see you here, Mr. Stark. You've never shown an interest in the military." “Oh, don’t worry, knocking still is but I figured the great Captain America wasn’t doing anything too bad in here, and whatever I might have caught you doing? Couldn’t blame you, it’s been decades obviously, need to get it where you can,” Tony shook his hand and grinned, “Oh, and don’t worry, I still have zero interest in the military. I can already get the girl, without a uniform.” Dropping the hand, he then looked around the office before, again looking towards Steve, “I have something for you, Mr. Rogers, which is why I’m here.” Pulling out a flash drive, he handed it towards the Captain, “That contains files on a synthetic nano-drug that can destroy and neutralize the current drug on the street, the one that’s been causing people to blow up. I’m bringing it to you, because I figure you can get it to Fury, and therefore SHIELD, and have it distributed quicker than some genius 18 year old walking into a hospital and telling people, ‘try this’.” Steve frowned at Tony and commented, "The military isn't about getting a uniform to get a girl. It's about serving your country and what you believe in." Obviously Tony had come for a reason though, and apparently he came bearing a gift of some sort. He watched as Tony plucked one of those small flash drives out and held it for him. Steve reached out, taking it into his hand and looked at it before returning his gaze to Tony. "How did you come up with a cure?" Steve asked, not sounding suspicious, but a bit marveled by it, "How did you even know what you're looking at?" He wasn't going to question Tony much more than that, but he knew that Fury was going to ask all the questions at some point. Especially when Steve told him who he got this supposed cure from. "Thank you, Tony," Steve said and extended his hand after switched the flash drive to his left palm, "If this does work, you've just saved a lot of people." Tony shook the hand in return and smirked, “Don’t worry about how i came up with it, just that I did. Remember, Billionaire genius here, just go with that and it answers all of the necessary questions. And good luck on your ‘serving the country’ bit, you’ve already done plenty of that. Granted, the country you served is much different than now.” He then dropped his hand before turning towards the door, looking over his shoulder towards Steve, “I know why some people join the military, Captain, I also know that even more than that join it out of necessity, to pay for school, or to better their lives. It’s not quite as selfless as we’d all like to believe. I think you should maybe research your new military employers just a bit.” Tony then frowned before turning around fully again, gesturing towards the flash drive, “Get it out there as much as possible, and as fast as possible. I believe the serum’s only going to get worse and might actually increase deaths exponentially very soon.” Steve knew that people joined the military for one reason or another, but he knew there was a time where it was more than that. The military changed a lot, and it's why when he spoke to kids about recruitment, he wanted to make sure their head was in the right place. War wasn't pretty when it came down to it, and those kids who went in there for any reason, even if it was noble, were given a rude awakening. But he knew that his own reasons helped him to get past those hard times. SHIELD and Steve had their differences, but they were one of the few organizations still out there doing something good. The US Army thought of him as a relic and sometimes he felt they wanted to put him into a museum. At least with SHIELD, he was working, though sometimes he felt like he was working with half the information. "I'll call Fury now," Steve said, "and thank you again, Tony." He went to pick up his phone and pressed a couple of buttons that called into SHIELD. A female voice picked up and Steve said, "I need the Colonel. I got something he's going to want." |
