The weather in Manhattan was set to reach a high of 75 degrees Fahrenheit today, and the sun shining down warming the borough seemed to be a good omen for the graduating seniors of the Howard Stark School of Tomorrow and the Charles Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters. The families, friends, fellow students, and former students of both schools came into the auditorium, filling up the bleachers of the school gymnasium. A number of chairs sat in the center of the gym floor before a large stage where the staff of each school sat, many of them wearing their own accolades from their time at universities, making for an impressive looking group of people. At 12:50 p.m. the doors to the gymnasium closed and there was a buzz of excitement. Graduation Day had come at last! Once the clock struck 1:00 p.m. the lights dimmed over the audience, the familiar tune of Pomp and Circumstance began playing, a single spotlight shone toward a door which opened and the graduating seniors came marching in single file, filling up the seats in front of the stage. A couple of spots looked empty though from students that didn't bother to come or were late arriving. Chances were they'd have to sneak their way in at some point and hope it went unnoticed and definitely before the awarding of the diplomas. The students remained standing and another spotlight went to a couple of the ROTC students led by Captain Rogers carrying in the flag of the United States along with the state and county flags behind. Everyone else stood as the national anthem began playing. When the presentations of the colors ended and the audience ceased their singing, Dr. Stephen Strange, wearing his own accolades, came to take the microphone. "Welcome family, friends, staff, alumni, dignitaries, and other individuals of note to the graduation ceremony of the Howard Stark School of Tomorrow and the Charles Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters," he started and then went on to introduce himself as the master of ceremonies for today. He reminded all audience members and students to remain seated during the ceremony and to keep the applause to a dull roar until the recessional. Announcing the rest of the program, he finished with announcing that the they would be addressed by the valedictorians of each school, Paige Guthrie for the Xavier school and Pepper Potts for the Stark school, and following their remarks there would be a brief musical performance by a small group of seniors. At the end of their number, Logan would take the stand to speak to the students as their keynote speaker, and then Mr. Howard Stark would do the presentation of the class. Once that was done, the diplomas would be awarded, and after that the recessional would conclude the meeting, and everyone would be directed to the school's lawn for a special luncheon. The ceremony went on much as Dr. Strange said it would, though there was a hiccup or two along the way, courtesy of some seniors who wanted one last prank before they were completely done with school. However, no incident plagued the school this year, or the world apparently. After the students each walked the stage, Mr. Stark directed the students to move the tassel of their caps from one side to the other, officially making them graduates and no longer students of the school, he announced, "Congratulations, class of 2014." There was a loud cheer and hats went flying into the air, the audience erupting into a loud roar as they applauded and hollered for the students below. Once everyone calmed down a bit, the students gathered their hats, midst their giggles and laughter, and the recessional began. Once the last student left, the rest of the audience departed and made their way out as well. The lights in the gymnasium turned off for now, the last door closed, and the graduates of 2014 said goodbye to high school and now faced a world of possibilities before them. |
