Thread: Auditions! (All) Characters: Any/All NPCs: Dr. MacTaggert, Lady Jac, & Nurse Carter Location: Stark School Auditorum Timeline: Monday, March 31, 2014 [forward-dated] Description: Auditions from the spring musical, RENT! Rating: PG-13, the play has some adult-ish content
As Howard assigned Lady Jac to take charge of the musical, the auditions were held at the Stark School. They shuttled students from Xavier's that were interested in auditioning and the janitorial staff set up the the auditorium with a desk a few rows back. Dr. MacTaggert and Lady Jac sat there along with Nurse Carter. The three women each had audition forms placed before them that they reviewed. The students wrote down their names and what parts they wanted, and also if they were willing to play an extra or take a smaller roll. Doctor Strange used some sort of spell on the piano that would play the musical piece that the student needed, and if the student brought their own recording to sing along to for the musical audition, Wong stood in the wings ready to play the music when the student was ready.
It wasn't just the actors that were there, but also the curious. Students that wanted to watch the auditions were welcomed and took their place in the seats. When the potential actors and actresses were called, they walked up the staircase leading to the main stage. Bright lights beamed down and gave the auditioner a good view of the audience. Most of the chairs sat vacant, and the lights dimmed so it felt more like an actual performance. On the desk where the three ladies sat were desk lamps so they could read their papers, but otherwise most of the audience was dark.
Once most of the students handed the forms in, Lady Jac stood up to explain how things were to proceed.
First, the students would be called up individually. They would perform their monologue and then their solo number. After everyone went individually, they would be called up according to how they filled out the form and read specific scenes. They looked for both acting ability and chemistry between characters. Finally, when all that was said and done, they would hopefully have a good idea of who would be cast and casting would go up within the week. If they were teetering on anyone in particular, they would call them back to read again.
She finished by wishing them luck and encouraged them all to relax and just do their best. Taking her seat, auditions began and she called out the first name.
