Smiling back as she did, Yuya grabbed a tray and ordered a nice big meal of katsudon. He hadn't eaten a decent breakfast and his stomach's really empty that moment. He knew Maki was studying him with subtle side glances, but he dare not welcome it back, unless he wanted to space out and stare at her some more. He tried acting naturally, but at the back of his head he was very glad that the young lady had somehow... an interest on him, if there's something really going on behind those stares anyway. His heart was still beating fast.
Lunch was spent quietly. Not much talking happened between the two. One would expect awkwardness at a first lunch together, but theirs was different. There was complete silence as they each focused on their own meals. It appeared like they just went with each other to eat. Yuya thought of livening up things in the beginning by telling work stories, but later told himself not to. This is lunch break, this is a breather from work, ergo break and work should not jive together at this crucial time. The cafeteria seemed to be another dimension, like it wasn't a part of the hospital. He wanted to savor the moments with her that way.
