CHARACTERS: Lily Potter & Scorpius Malfoy
DATE: September 1st, 2026
PLACE: Department of Magical Law Enforcement, The Ministry Of Magic
SUMMARY: Lily doesn't expect the second week of her job to be any more enjoyable that the first. And of course, there's always the matter of a certain blonde making things worse.
Three, two, one.
Eleven o'clock. Lily's last chance to make a quick dash and apparate to Kings Cross had passed. Not that she thought the teachers would be very welcoming, considering that the seventh years' leaving party had been one of the most catastrophic yet and, of course, she had been there to boss around and do the majority of the organising.
A week had passed since she had started her job and in that time she had filed each nail five times; spilt coffee over her skirt, a stack of files and a man who was very tall and wore very smart robes; been chatted up four times; glared at Scorpius three times, raised an eyebrow at him twice and snorted at something he was saying that she overheard once, which then led to getting a dirty look from some other tall, smart robed Ministry worker. As expected, her first week had been hell. On the bright side, she was easily one of the best dressed in the department, something that she owed to her incredible selection of pencil skirts.
Ten past eleven. Right now, she could be commandeering a compartment of the train for herself and her friends and starting the first wave of the 'how was your summer?' questions. She would have gushed about France and about how she spent a month of pure bliss and freedom and another of this new kind of torture they called 'job searching'. Because she had turned eighteen last February and left school last June she was apparently she was now considered an 'adult'. Whatever the fuck that was.
Ignoring all protests from various friends and family members that the job just didn't seem suited to her, she had declared that she would make the job suit her.
So far, it wasn't working.
