CHARACTERS: Della & Mad Tom
SETTING: The Underground - a muggle bar
DATE: February 18th
SUMMARY: An aftermath, a drink and a discussion.
The bar was situated in a basement - quiet, dark, dimly lit and fitting all the cliches of a shady meeting place. Della, however, was fond of it simply because it wasn't all that popular and she was saved from having to endure the company of obnoxiously drunk people and skeevy men. She thought she might have recommended the place to Tom before, but texted him the directions before leaving, regardless.
Her wedges clacked noisily as she walked, although the street was anything but quiet. Slightly out of the way, yes, but not so far that the growl of traffic and distant music from some more popular club were drowned out. She was glad for it; the constant background hum of city noises soothed her.
She didn't descend the steps to the bar straight away, knowing that she was ten minutes early gave her a chance for a quick ciggie beforehand.
As she smoked, Tom's words from the article flitted through her mind once more. I inhaled a smoke of my choice, as the air filled with the stench of burned ink and paper. When the blaze broke out, tearing her eyes away from it was impossible. Perhaps it was because it was hypnotizing and bright and demanded to be stared at - perhaps it was just because it was a fire on a scale she had never witnessed in person before. Perhaps, perhaps. The reality of it aligned with the opinions expressed in his article in a way that both terrified and excited her. As she exhaled into the cold February air, she mulled over the events once more, wondering if she would ever be the perpetrator of such an attack.
No, she decided firmly, grounding the cigarette beneath her shoe. But she could appreciate the message nonetheless.
