sunday, wake up, give me a cigarette
CHARACTERS: Della Richmond & Robert Nott
SETTING: Robert's parents' London townhouse
DATE: July 27th 2025
SUMMARY: Neither of them have ever been good at goodbyes.
Della's bare legs tangled between sheets that weren't hers as she twisted in the bed that wasn't hers either. It was eight am and she knew she should be awake - knew she should be gone - but swinging her body out of bed required effort and energy and a desire to leave that she wasn't quite sure she possessed.
(Not that she wanted to stay, no. But. Leaving places behind - places that held no bad memories - was never a nice feeling. At least, that's what she told herself as she frowned into a pillow that also wasn't hers.)
Daylight spilled in through the long, tall window - during her stay in the house, its sill had been her perch for countless nights where all she could manage were a few hours of sleep and a few cigarettes. The window in her brother's flat was small and rusted shut and she had grazed her palm the previous evening, while attempting to open it. Not that she expected anything in her brother's old flat to be as grand or exuberant as Robert's parents' townhouse. Rich people liked rich things.
"Fuck it," Della breathed gently, untangling herself from the covers.
Over her underwear she tugged on a t-shirt she had salvaged from the flat. The material fell down to her thighs and smelled faintly of alcohol and men's deodorant. Her fingers twisted around the hem absentmindedly as she quietly opened and closed the door to the bedroom and gently padded towards the kitchen. Coffee, that was what she needed. A mug of coffee, and then her head would be clear enough to allow her to finish packing up her things and leave.
Robert didn't know; she hadn't told him. Did he need to know? Would it take long for him to notice? Would it be how he expected her to leave? Her eyes flicked upwards momentarily, as she wondered if he was awake at the moment.
