WHO: Mary Crawley & Howard Stark
WHEN: Monday, Oct 2nd
WHERE: Holodeck simulation of Downton
SUMMARY: It's a date where Mary shows Howard her home, they have a picnic and he takes her up in his airplane... possibly not in that order.
WARNINGS: Flirting and kissing are probably givens. I'll edit if there's anything else.

Mary was excited to show Howard her family home as it existed in the holodeck. The weather inside the simulation had been updated to reflect fall, which was always a beautiful season at Downton. The air would be crisp, so Mary wore a light coat and a hat. She had packed them a picnic lunch from the mess hall to have on the lawn, complete with sandwiches, a few of Max's cupcakes and some wine. All in all she hoped that it would be a nice day. Even if she and Howard couldn't really go anywhere on dates, with the holodeck they could technically go anywhere. It made her want to see what other exotic places they could cook up.

Howard, lover of surprises, told her that he had tweaked the program a bit before they got there. That left Mary feeling a bit confused, because what could he have to tweak about a place that he had never seen before? It all made sense when they entered the simulation and Mary noticed the two seater prop plane sitting on Downton's front lawn. "Is that yours?" she asked with a grin. Probably a silly question.

Mary was enthralled by the plane, while Howard was surely looking at the huge house that loomed before both of them.

"One of mine, yes," he said with a grin, slipping his arm around Mary's waist to pull her in closer as the door closed behind them. The crispness of the air made her cheeks pink up and Howard couldn't help but let the beautiful woman at his side steal all his attention. Sure, the house was great and all, but Mary... She was the real jewel here and he wouldn't think to deny it. "My girl says she wants a plane ride, my girl gets a plane ride."

Mary raised an eyebrow at him and then smiled. "Actually, your girl mentioned that she had never ridden in a plane before and you took it upon yourself to surprise me." Not that she minded. Howard always gave her wonderful surprises and this was no exception. She had to admit though, she was a bit nervous about going up in the airplane, even in the holodeck simulation. Putting it off towards the end might be how she chose to hide that.

"Well. Would you like a tour of the house? It's really only the downstairs and my bedroom." So long as he could keep his hands to himself when they got to her bedroom.

"Close enough," he laughed, leaning in to steal a quick kiss. It was only once he pulled away that he finally let the house itself take his attention... And it was impressive. The architecture was lovely, but it was a huge beast of a thing, standing like a sentinel in the sprawling lawns surrounding it.

"I would," he said honestly after giving the house a wolf whistle. "But I have to admit... I'm feeling a little inferior here. I'm not used to that."

"You?" She asked. "I never thought I'd see the day." Mary was kind of pleased that he was impressed with the house, not because she wanted to intimidate him, but because she loved her home and was very proud of it. Downton could definitely be a daunting place for most people, especially those who did not grow up there.

Mary took his hand and laced her fingers with his. "Come, it's not so frightening. At least my family isn't inside." That would be the real fear factor here. Not having to content with Papa or Granny should make this a relative piece of cake for him.

"One of these days, beautiful, I'm going to show you my homes," he said, letting his hand get a little familiar with her side before he released his hold on her. "Then you'll see why I am equal parts impressed and frightened."

Howard squeezed her hand lightly when Mary threaded their fingers together. "Thank God for small favors," he laughed. "Tour first, then we go for a ride."

"I would love to see your homes," she replied. Mary would probably find them equally impressive, but nothing would ever be Downton. The mansion had a special place in her heart.

His hands were already very familiar with her body and she never protested much. Making her feel good was high on his list.

Mary led him to the grand door of the house. As large as it was, it belied what was behind it. Pushing the handle and opening the door, Mary led Howard into a grand foyer with a staircase at the far end. Both directions led off into rooms on either side. The walls had various tapestries and paintings. Mary actually held her breath a bit while she waited for Howard's reaction.

Another wolf whistle came as Howard stepped into the foyer and toward the middle. He spun around to get a good view of the architecture, the woodwork, everything.

It was... intimidating as all hell. Especially when Howard thought about the humble apartments he'd grown up in in Manhattan. Maybe he'd show her that one day. But then again, maybe not. It wasn't that he was ashamed of his beginnings. He would just want Mary to meet his folks and that wasn't possible.

He moved back to Mary's side after a moment with a smile. "Let's have the nickle tour, Beautiful."

She exhaled, hoping that that was a good reaction. He had a smile on his face at least. Howard tended to be honest with her, but he also had a great poker face. He wasn't the type to let others see him sweat. While he usually took down his walls around her, Howard could still be unreadable sometimes.

Mary put her hand on his arm and led him through the foyer and around the main level of the house. She showed him the library and the green sitting room where her family often had tea or after dinner drinks. The dining room with all of the beautiful portraits was one of the last rooms she led him through before arriving at the red carpeted staircase that led up to the bedrooms.

"So that's most of the main floor," she told him. "We may see my bedroom... if you can behave yourself." Mary had her doubts. She also doubted that she would actually stop him if he chose to misbehave.

Each room was more impressive than the next. The only room he didn't feel like an interloper in was probably the library... And even then, he still felt like he probably shouldn't touch too many things. Thankfully, because he was him, that feeling usually made him want to touch things more, to break down the barriers that stood between him and what he wanted.

Right then, those feelings of inadequacy stood between him and Mary. And that was definitely a barrier he wasn't going to allow to stand for too long.

He pulled her close at the base of the stairs, his hands spreading wide across her back, his nose gently bumping against hers. "Do you want me to behave?" he teased, lips pulled wide in a smirk.

	She gasped a little when he pulled her in, then laughed slightly. "I may not be opposed to it if you don't," Mary replied breathlessly. For what it was worth, Mary's intentions were not at all to intimidate him. She simply wanted to share her home with him and let him see where she grew up, because she liked him. 	It was a kiss so brief that it left Mary leaning forward for more. "I would say it's more like... if your hands decide to wander, I won't stop them," she murmured before pressing her lips to his again. 	"My hands do enjoy a good wander," he teased, keeping his lips just out of reach after all together too brief moments of contact. He illustrated his point by letting those wandering hands slide down her back so he could grasp her rear. In response, Mary grabbed the lapel of his jacket and pulled him in for a real kiss. As much as she hated to admit that sort of "defeat", she wanted to feel his lips against hers. At this point, their relationship went beyond teasing anyway. Howard was pretty aware of how much Mary enjoyed his advances.

"That sounds like an excellent idea." She took one of his hands off of her backside so that she could lead him up the stairs.

About a half hour later they came back down, Mary looking a bit disheveled, but giggling as he chased her back outside. She felt like a teenager - a good feeling for a woman her age. As usual, the sky was blue and the weather was beautiful outside her home and Mary felt content and refreshed. She turned to Howard, who was just behind her. "Are you ready to take me up in the sky?"
