Re: Rey & Luke
Luke took the hilt with a smile and turned it over in his hands. When he'd lost it, he was devastated, partially because he had no idea how to build another, and wasn't sure he'd ever be able to wield one properly minus a hand. But, he overcame the hand, and eventually learned how to construct a new one, a weapon that had been his far longer than this one was.
Anakin's blade had a pretty finish, in that sleek style they had lost with the Old Republic. It was beautiful.
But the blade had seen its share of good and bad. It had slain so, so many innocent lives, far too many children, Luke now knew. It could have brought Obi-Wan's death, had he not been quicker.
This same blade had helped lead Luke on the path than ultimately took him off-planet with Obi-Wan, into the Rebellion, and down the path of the Jedi.
A weapon could not be defined by the actions of its owner. But the owner could be judged by how they choose to wield it.
He gave it back to her. "I'm glad it's found a worthy new owner. I was perhaps a little careless with it. Not because the hand holding it got chopped off, though that is how I lost it, but because I faced a challenge I wasn't ready for. Now is a good time, Rey, to prepare for upcoming challenges, in a relatively safe environment. And I'll do whatever I can to help you."
