WHO: Carol Marcus and Leonard McCoy
WHEN: 226409.07 evening
WHERE: Observation deck
SUMMARY: It's a ~date.
WARNINGS: Probably none

Carol waited for Bones in the observation deck after picking up two beers from the lounge. This was their second real date and Carol was still trying to keep it casual. She had changed into jeans and a nice top - nothing too fancy. The observation deck was always a nice place because it at least gave them a pretty view.

They hadn't talked about becoming serious yet and Carol knew that Bones's divorce had been contentious. She wasn't going to push him into anything that he wasn't comfortable with yet. Carol found that she liked him though, and that she enjoyed the time they spent together. For some reason his grumpiness and her cheeriness meshed well together.

Bones was helpless at getting ready for dates. Was he supposed to care? Was he supposed to try? Or be casual? But what was too casual?

Jim rescued him, took away his bottle of whiskey, and handed him a shirt to wear. That helped. Then he went to the mess and grabbed multiple wraps sliced in half—chicken, turkey, italian, and veggie—with a couple of Max's cupcakes and headed for the observation deck.

He was surprised Carol had beaten him, and he smiled as he joined her. "We got it all to ourselves? How did you manage that?"

"I told everyone that I'd make sure they had their next shift with Spock," she said with a grin. Really they had just gotten lucky to be alone. Carol was strongly considering locking the doors on the deck.

She gave Bones a brief hug and a kiss on the cheek. "Those look great," she said of the sandwiches. "Oh and cupcakes too!" Those things were delicious to the point of sin. Carol had probably already eaten too many of them, but tonight was a special occasion.

Bones laughed and finished setting out the food. "That's cruel. It's hilarious, but it's cruel. You didn't really do that, did you?"

Defying the best advice he gives to his patients, Bones took a bite of one of the cupcakes before digging into a wrap. "I don't know what Max does to these, but they are as addictive as narcotics."

I really thought I responded to this yesterday, sorry!

She laughed, still grinning at him. "No, there wasn't anyone here. I think we should lock the doors though." The idea of them having the observation deck all to themselves was very romantic. Perhaps next time they would go on a date in the holodeck - guaranteed privacy there.

Carol decided to be good and bit into one of the chicken wraps before touching the cupcakes. "Have you had the double chocolate ones?" She asked. "They're to die for."

It's okay! Then I was MIA

Bones didn't think it would be a crisis if they were walked in on, but also didn't see why they couldn't lock the door. He got up and punched in his override to keep out unwanted overachievers.

He settled back down beside her and shook his head. "Max usually only gives me boozy flavors. I never complain."

Carol grinned when he locked the door. All to themselves. She liked that very much. It earned him another kiss on the cheek when he sat back down, this one closer to his mouth.

"I can't imagine you would," she replied. "They're all delicious. How are things in the medbay?" Carol subbed in sometimes, but she definitely was not a doctor. Her expertise was much more in the physical sciences than the biological ones.

Bones leaned back and nibbled on one of the sandwich rolls, smiling over at her. "Medbay is fine. We've lost a lot of our medical crew lately. It's feeling a bit more normal."

"Tony left and came back, right?" Carol asked. "But he doesn't remember being here, does he?" That was a strange phenomenon, possibly even more strange than then travelers arriving at all. Why send someone home and then bring them back with no memories of the place at all. In the small amount of research that she'd done on the traveler project so far, there didn't seem to be a lot of rhyme or reason to the arrivals and departures.

Bones nodded. "Tony isn't really the same as he was before. It's not that he's a different person, but he holds himself differently. I suppose we all do that throughout our lives, chnage our attitudes and focuses. It's just more noticeable when we see an instant change."

Deciding he didn't care about dessert last, Bones reached for a cupcake and took a much-too-large bite.

"How odd," she said, taking another bite of her wrap. "I guess you're right though. We all change." Carol was somewhat of a different person now than she was before her father died. Overall, she tried to still be cheerful, but she knew that she was more jaded now than she had been. Being betrayed by her own father had been devastating.

Carol smiled as Bones at the cupcake. "Do you have a sweet tooth?"
