Peggy was hardly the type to be good at comforting either. Much better at being the strong one and avoiding difficult subjects altogether, moreso than offering comfort. "I'm sure there are enough people here who can provide comfort as needed that those of us who aren't any good at it can let them handle it." She hoped that at least some of her liaisons managed it better than she did.

She smiled and lifted her drink to her lips, sipping it light. She didn't say again to be careful about Howard; she didn't need to. Instead, she nodded. "I'm glad you can be there for him."

Maybe it was the Brit in them. Having a stiff upper lip and carrying on despite tragedy just seemed to be in their cultural DNA.

"Does he need someone there for him?" Mary asked. "Oddly enough, he's been quite supportive of me. And our date was lovely. He made a dance hall simulation that was so perfect, right down to the last detail."

She was aware that she was gushing, but she kind of wanted to and Peggy was one of the few people on board that she felt comfortable doing it to.

Peggy didn't mind the gushing, though perhaps she would be better at enjoying it or asking questions if it wasn't Howard that Mary was gushing about. "He told me about the dance hall program," she said. "I'm glad to heard that you enjoyed it."

Perhaps Mary wouldn't gush about what had happened later that night then. Suffice it to say that she'd woken up very satisfied the next day.

"It was incredible. I'm sure that anyone from your time would enjoy it. We all ought to go dancing one night." Mary smiled again as she thought back to that night, then got herself together. "How have you been though, Peggy?"

Peggy tapped her chin lightly. "You know, I have been thinking about that," she told Mary. "About perhaps utilizing the holodeck in a similar way to how we're using the lounge. Give everyone a little more variety, as it were."

She shrugged. "Keeping busy," she said. "It's what I do best, after all."

Mary nodded. "I think it could be good, a nice change of pace. Downton is always an option to host things, though I may find such a place more soothing than others would." Her house could be daunting, but Mary took much comfort in it, even in just the grounds. To her, it was a peaceful place.

"You keep busy very well," she agreed. "Sometimes it's good to take care of yourself though." Mary took a sip of her wine. A bit of wine was always good self-care.

"I'm sure there would be some here who would enjoy the peace and quiet there as well. You have a lawn, yes? Perhaps some lawn games sometime, to put up the pretense of being outside. I don't know about you, but I often miss the sunshine. And even if it's fake in the holodeck, it does a wonder of good to pretend."

"Oh, yes, a huge lawn. Croquet or cricket would be nice. I miss the sunshine so much when we are on the ship."

That was another part of why she liked escaping to the Downton simulation. Mary had taken the advice of both Jim and Pike and not spent a whole ton of time in there because they were absolutely right that it would only depress her in the long run. Her home was best experienced in small doses.

"Artificial light simply isn't the same at all, is it?" Peggy asked. She sipped her drink, the ice clinking a little, and then wiped some of the condensation from it. "But it still manages to trick us well enough."

"It really isn't," Mary replied. "I enjoy the few times that we are planet-bound, even if the last planet was quite hot."

Despite her best use of hats and parasols, Mary had still gotten a bit of color. Fortunately it was fading and her ivory skin was slowly returning to normal.

"Yes, it was unlike anything I could have imagined," Peggy said. She had been stuck planet-side for longer than intended, because of the sandstorm. "But it's something, isn't it? The chance to see other planets?"

"Yes," she said, smiling in spite of herself. "Sometimes, when I'm feeling lonely, or I am missing my home, I try to tell myself that I am getting to experience something that I would never have back there. I had never even been in an airplane back home."

Sometimes that helped to comfort her and sometimes it didn't. There was no denying though that what she was experiencing here was something that no other person from her time ever would.

Peggy smiled. "Yes, if you continue to remind yourself of that, it does get easier."
