Poe shook his head, "No ma'am, not that I've come across" he replied, "I've watched people play a few times here but I'm afraid that's the limit of my knowledge" For Poe it was definitely not a strange question and he appreciated her easygoing nature. On the whole people were pretty friendly here, which suited Poe's own nature.

Carol was usually a pretty sunny person, which was sometimes at odds with the fact that she knew how to build weapons of mass destruction. For what it was worth, she didn't have to build or use them very often since Starfleet tried to keep it peaceful - even if that didn't always happen.

"It's relatively easy, or at least the concept of it is. This is called a cue." She held up the stick that was in her hand. "And the white ball is called a cue ball. Basically you hit the white ball with the cue and try to knock it into the colored balls and make them go in the pockets on the edges of the table. A lot of the skill to the game is about angles and figuring out just how to hit the ball so that it goes where you want it to."

Carol handed him one of the cues from the rack next to the table and took another swig from her bottle of beer. "I'm Carol, by the way."

Poe listened and nodded as she explained, BB-8 would love this. Figuring out calculations was his kind of thing, Poe would have to bring him next time, it would be good for the little droid to mix. He was a friendly little guy after all.

Taking the cue Poe smiled, "Poe, nice to meet you Carol" he said holding out his hand to shake hers, "I appreciate this" he added to let her know he was grateful for her taking time out from her evening to teach him the game.

"Nice to meet you as well," Carol replied as she shook his hand. "No problem. I was looking for someone to play with anyway. Want to give it a try?"

She would let him practice a bit first before starting a game, which she intended to keep friendly. She wanted to see how he took to the game anyway.

"I definitely would" Poe nodded with a smile.

He practiced on a few shots, holding the cue wasn't too bad, he got that quickly and placing it was pretty simple. Working out the angles was a little harder but his training definitely helped. It wasn't exactly like shooting a blaster but some principles were the same.

"Okay, I think I'm getting the hang of this" he said, looking over at Carol to see what she thought.

Carol nodded. "You're doing great, actually." The game was easy to play, but it wasn't easy to play well. Poe seemed to be doing better with practice and had already sunk a few balls. "Are you ready for a real game?"

"Thanks" Poe smiled with a nod, "I would love to give a real game a go. I apologise in advance if it is too easy for you" he added as he began helping to reset the table for a game.

She shrugged. "Oh, no, don't worry about it. A friendly game is just fine." If he were Jim or Spock, she'd be playing to win, but having a fun game was just as well to her.

Carol got down the triangular rack and began to put all the pool balls into it on the table so that they would be arranged in a perfect pyramid.. "Do you want stripes or solids?"

Poe nodded, friendly game sounded good to him. It would probably always be his game of choice, though he did have a bit of a competitive streak which showed itself every now and then.

"Stripes, unless you have a preference" he said, willing to change should she wish it.

"I don't," she replied. "Solids will be fine for me."

After removing the rack and placing the cueball in front of the pyramid, Carol struck it with the cue. The pyramid broke and the other balls scattered across the table.

"So where are you from?"

"I was born on a planet called Yavin 4 but as a pilot I've traveled all over the galaxy" Poe told her, "It's not a known system here, from what I can tell. And you? You seem used to this kind environment"

Carol nodded. "I was born on Earth and spent most of my life there. I came up to space a few times because my dad was in Starfleet. He became an Admiral eventually." Best to leave it at that. Unfortunately, she didn't like talking about her father anymore.

She aimed on one of the solid colored balls, smacking the cue into the white ball. It bounced into the intended colored ball, but she miscalculated just a tad, as it didn't go all the way into the pocket.
