The extremely light and bouncy material of the neon green ball crushed flat against the surface of the Enterprise inner hull, lighting up as it hit before darkening again as it flew back straight into Peter's hand. The ball left his hand once more to repeat the process, hitting the exact same spot, at the exact same speed, before returning at the exact same velocity. The young man seemed forlorn, quiet, distant. It wasn't surprising, anyone who knew him, knew he'd been suffering from homesickness and loneliness since Dani had left and others seemed to pair off and find loves, and friends, and all of these other things and he kind of became a forgotten thing. At least, in his mind.
He'd been getting worse with it, and he wasn't entirely sure why. It'd never been that big of a thing for him. He'd always felt lonely, even when surrounded by friends, but never to this degree. Back home, he felt lonely because he always seemed to push people away by trying to keep them at a distance from his alter ego. Here? He wasn't doing that, but yet felt out of his league in many ways, felt out of his element, or even unnecessary.
Sighing a bit, he just laid back in the lounge chair, slumped deep into the cushions, throwing his ball at the wall and watching it come back to his hand. Thinking about Fornax didn't help the matters at all. He'd noted something going on in the systems there, and tried to stop it, but unfortunately it had led to him being arrested, and if it weren't for him contacting the Enterprise, he was pretty certain no one would have ever noticed he was missing. He'd probably he still on that planet, even more alone in a jail cell in the middle of the Universe. What's more, he felt like either he was rusty, or stupid, or both. Was he getting bad at his former job all of a sudden? It was definitely possible.
Parker spent plenty of times messing around in the science department, but they all seemed to have someone to go to after shifts, or a group to hang out with. He had his room, and more science, or staring out into space. Here? The lounge? At least there was the semblance of sound as people meandered through the lounge, or music played, and he had a drink. So, he had that going for him. He guessed.
He really needed to get out of that rut, but he certainly didn't know how.
