Pre-FORNAX VISIT
ROSE HATHAWAY + OLIVER QUEEN
SURPRISE BREAKFAST + FEELS
OLIVER'S QUARTERS | KISSING & STUFF
COMPLETE LOG

Rose had realized if a few weeks ago, when Adrian had showed up. Before then, she'd thought she and Oliver were just having fun. She'd probably been lying to herself a little bit about that, but it wasn't until her boyfriend from home - who hadn't known he was her boyfriend because for him he wasn't - showed up that she realized it wasn't as complicated as it should have been. As much as she'd loved Adrian, her connection to Oliver ran deeper.

It had scared the hell out of her to realize how she felt, especially since she had no idea what he was thinking or feeling. Usually, she could read him like an open book, but with this? As far as she knew, he really was just having fun with her. Maybe he didn't want anything more serious. She'd made up her mind that she just wouldn't say anything, just let things keep going the way they had been, but then he’d surprised her with breakfast in bed for no good reason.

They'd spent the night in his quarters last night after a late night of just sitting up and talking and when Rose woke up, the first thing she noticed was the smell of pancakes and bacon. Her mouth started to water even before she opened her eyes to see Oliver standing there, wearing a shit eating grin and carrying a tray that held a big stack of chocolate chip pancakes and a vase with a single flower in it. They were both probably replicated but she didn't even care.

“What's the occasion?” she asked, keeping her tone light even though she couldn't help thinking about how incredible he was.

Oliver knew that he was not good at relationships in fact, he’d probably only ever had one that would even come close to being considered a success and that was with Sara. She was just like him though so that was a big part of it and even at that, it hadn’t been a very healthy one given that he was also dating her sister at the same time. The second time around was better though but he’d also been fighting feelings for Felicity so scratch that, he really did suck at relationships.

Rose was different. They had met fresh with no baggage from having known each other before or having other people that were part of their past or present. Their friendship had grown naturally into something more and despite their age difference, Oliver felt that Rose understood him better than anyone. There were still things he hadn’t told her but that didn’t matter. The time would come and he’d tell her. The biggest thing right now was that he’d finally come to the realization that he loved her. Since their day on the holodeck celebrating the 4th of July together, he’d known that he had fallen for her but had no idea how to tell her. At least he could do things for her, like breakfast in bed. Which would have been a lot more impressive if he’d cooked it instead of replicating it but it was still good for what was essentially fake food.

“No occasion,” he said with a shrug and sat down the tray across her lap. “It just seemed like a chocolate chip pancake kind of morning.”

“There is no wrong time for chocolate chip pancakes,” Rose said as she pushed herself up in the bed so she was sitting up just in time to have him put the tray on her lap. It looked and smelled amazing. She picked up the fork and took a bite, moaning around the mouthful. “Oh my god, this is amazing,” she said. She paused in her eating to lean over and kiss him. Breakfast in bed was a simple thing, but it was also something she’d never gotten before. It was sweet and thoughtful and she loved that he knew chocolate chip pancakes were her favorite.

“You’re kind of amazing, you know,” she said several moments later when she’d finished the food and set the tray aside. She shifted to straddle his lap, grinning down at him as she pressed her lips to his again.

“I know,” he laughed as he kissed her back and then he reached up and brushed a lock of hair off her cheek. “Seriously though, I’m not all that amazing, I just like doing things for people I care about. And you seem to enjoy thanking me for them and I definitely enjoy being thanked.” It wasn’t just the physical part of their relationship that Oliver liked though, it was a great deal more than that and he had no idea how to say the words. He loved her, he knew that but saying it? He didn’t even know where to start.

“Modest, too,” Rose said with a smirk. Taking the hint, she leaned in and kissed him for a long moment. It wasn’t just a way to thank him for breakfast, of course, but she was going to take any excuse to do that. Over the past few months, kissing Oliver had become one of her favorite pastimes.

Pulling back, she just looked at him for a moment, thinking about how much more being stranded here might have sucked without meeting him on that first day. It was hard to believe it had been over three months or that what had started out as a casual friendship had blossomed into.. this. She’d never expected to feel this way about someone after Dimitri. Even though she’d loved Adrian, that had been different. She thought it had been the same with Oliver at first. They were just having fun in the beginning and they still did have fun, but there was more to it than that.

“You know, I think I might love you,” she said in her usual habit of just saying what she was thinking without really thinking about the consequences.

He hadn’t been expecting those words and he was almost too surprised to respond. Not that he didn’t feel the same way, he did and he still couldn’t believe that he’d fallen for her. Since his return from the island, Oliver had spent a lot of time pushing people away, Sara being the only person that he allowed to get close but she had shared many of his experiences. Felicity was another story, if he hadn’t come here, would the feelings he had for her turned into more? He had no idea but right now none of that was important. He was a long way from home and this beautiful young woman had captured his heart without even having to try.

“I think I might love you too,” he said, picking up her hand and kissing it. “In fact, I’d go so far as to say that I don’t just think I do, I know I do.”

“Yeah?” Rose looked a little more self conscious than she did, well, ever, because it just wasn’t a usual look for her, but admitted she might love someone wasn’t something she did often or easily. She’d said those words to exactly two people in her life and while she’d meant it both times, it definitely wasn’t a phrase she tossed around lightly.

“Sooo...” she started, looking down at their joined hands. She wasn’t really sure what to say after that, what to do or how to act. It was kind of a big admission, for both of them and it was one she hadn’t really meant to make. She almost felt like something more needed to be said or done or something, but she didn’t know what.

He reached up and pulled her down into a long kiss. Oliver didn’t know what else to say either but those words were more than enough. When they broke apart, he smiled at her. “So I guess that means we’re in a relationship now? Officially? Like on Facebook? Which they don’t have in space.” He grinned and then grew serious for a moment. “You make me happy, Rose. The last few years of my life have sucked beyond belief but you make me happy and as pissed as I was to get dragged into space, I’m glad you were here.”

Rose laughed at his question. “I kind of thought that whole relationship status was settled when we had sex in a waterfall,” she half-joked. “I mean totally my bad if we weren't but I've kind of been referring to you as my boyfriend since Hawaii.” Despite her jokes, she got what he meant. This made it more serious, more than just a casual kind of dating thing. It meant something more than what she'd thought this had been at first.

“I'm glad you were here, too,” she admitted in a more serious tone. “I don't know what I would have done if you hadn't been. Probably been a lot less happy about the whole situation. You made being stuck in this ship a lot more bearable.”

“You’ve got a point. The waterfall definitely did sort of up the ante.” It had been an experience that Oliver knew he’d never forget and it wasn’t just because of the sex. “And you can call me your boyfriend as much as you want because that’s what I am.” There had been a time when the idea of being in a relationship with only one person would have scared the hell out of him but that time was gone and he was perfectly content to be just where he was.

“The waterfall was pretty great,” Rose agreed as she leaned in to kiss him again, “ but this is nice, too.” She punctuated her words with another kiss, lingering against his lips longer this time as her hands reached for his shirt. “I think I should probably thank you for the pancakes now,” she murmured without quite pulling away. “Unless you had something else in mind for this morning.”

“Nope, I think this is perfect way to start the morning, “ he said with a grin and then he kissed her one more time. “I love you, Rose.” He would never get tired of saying those words.

“I’m glad we’re on the same page,” she said with a grin, murmuring a return I love you as she brought her lips back to hers to show him just how much she meant it.
