Chris/Leia - before the dinner.

Christopher shouldn't be this nervous about a dress. Or the two spare ones hanging in his closet. The silver dress that had been his first choice was draped over the couch. He thought it would suit Leia, the woman who was both princess and general. He had had help of course in picking out his top choices but this one he kept coming back to.

He heard the door chime and called "come in" hoping the dress would suit. He gave Leia a kiss when she came in before stepping aside so she could see his choice. "Well, general, will this work for tonight or am I stuck enduring a diplomatic dinner solo?"

Truly, Leia hadn't been sure what to expect when she'd told Chris to pick out a dress for her. At first she had been teasing, but then she realized she wasn't at all. She really did want to see him choose a dress for her, as though that was a first step in them taking a step forward with their - whatever they wanted to call it - relationship. Attending an event like this, together, was probably enough, really, but this was fun.

Her eyes brightened when she spotted the dress, and she crossed to it, fingering the silvery folds. "Oh, I think this'll work just fine," she told him with a smile. "Who helped you pick it out?" she ventured a moment later, a grin tugging at the corner of her mouth.

Chris raised an eyebrow, giving her a smirk. "What? I couldn't pick that out all by myself?"

Christopher went up to her and wrapped her arms around her from behind and kissing her neck. "I might have enlisted the help of some of my senior staff. Although this one spoke to me and was my favorite. Though if you don't like it, I might have also picked up some extras."

She gave him another look to challenge him, because no, she didn't think he would have tried picking it out on his own. She believed, of course, that he had final say, that he knew what he liked and what he might like her in, but that didn't mean he didn't seek out someone else's opinion.

Leia smiled. "No, this is beautiful. I don't need to see any of the others." She turned slightly and kissed his upper arm.

It was his turn to raise an eyebrow at that. He hadn't been sure she'd like the silver one. He wasn't sure if it had enough color in it for her or if it would be too similiar to the white she had worn in her past.

"I'll have to save them for another occasion, then," he said with a smile that indicated he was certainly planning such a thing for the future.

"I wasn't sure if you wanted to get ready here or in your own quarters.. It shouldn't take me too long.."

"Will there be more occasions like this?" Leia asked him. She scooped the dress up into her arms and touched his arm gently. "I can get ready here. I brought some accessories with me, that I thought would go with just about anything. That is, if you don't mind my getting ready here."

The question took him a bit by surprise. There were always diplomatic occasions and dinners to be had, but there were also dry spells, with no one bu the ships crew for company. "I suppose that depends on how many missions are in our future.."

But it would always be possible to find someplace for a date with Leia.

He gave her a smile. "Not at all. Probably simpler. I just need to shave and get dressed."

He brushed his lips against Leia's cheek before heading back to shave. It didn't take too long before he came out in the white and grey dress uniform of admiral, hair slicked back, and ribbons aligned in straight rows.

"Well? Do I pass muster?"

Leia took advantage of him shaving in the refresher to change into the dress, which fit her like a glove. She sat at one of the straight-backed chairs and began working on her hair, dividing it into sections and braiding and twisting it up into an intricate pattern, something she remembered her mother wearing for a royal dinner before. It was a memory tucked deep in the back of her mind, and she was surprised to find that her fingers knew how to work her hair into the style.

She turned and smiled when he came back out. "I guess so," she said with a shrug.

That earned an eyebrow from him and a smirk as he came up behind her and kissed her neck. "You guess so. I suppose maybe I need to work harder then.."

He took in Leia, the dress, the hair, her very way of being. "You on the other hand, look absolutely amazing. And are making me wish this wasn't a work affair."

"All I have to say to that is, eventually the event will be over and we'll be back here, hmn?" She brushed off his shoulders and straightened the insignia on his chest. After a quick kiss, Leia smiled up at him. "You look wonderful, admiral."

Christopher felt the back of his neck heat up slightly at the comment and the compliment. "Indeed we will."

He sighed and ran a hand over his hair.

"Well, shall we, my general?"

She slid her arm easily in against his arm and brushed her mouth against his jaw. "Let's go."
