Who: Jaylah & Kitty Pryde
When: Last week
Where: Jaylah's crew quarters
What: Drinks & truth or dare; or, a pale excuse for flirting.
Rating: PG13 for kissing
Status: Complete

This was probably a stupid idea. Kitty wasn’t a teenager anymore, but she did want something to distract her from River’s departure. She’d seen other people affected by people leaving, but this was the first time it had been someone she’d befriended.

She pushed it from her mind, swinging a bottle around in her hand as she approached Jaylah’s quarters. She chimed the bell, and hoped this wasn’t a disaster. Jaylah tended to be literal, which could either be really funny or really embarrassing, but since when had either thing stopped Kitty? Never, that’s when.

At least Jaylah belonged to this timeline and wouldn’t suddenly disappear on her, it was a comfort and why was she doing this she was going to embarrass herself in front of the pretty alien who was nearly as good a fighter as her. Not that Kitty was interested in that sort of thing. Or anything.

Denial was a river in Egypt and she nearly opened the bottle to take a swig then and there.

Starfleet crew quarters were sparse, but she didn't have a roommate, which was convenient. The door slid open and Jaylah stood there, dressed in a non-uniform tunic and trousers. She liked Kitty - the other woman made her smile and was good for explaining things. She smiled when she saw the bottle of alcohol in Kitty's hand.

"Come in Kitty," she said, stepping aside to make room for the other girl. She took a seat on the bed, sprawling across half of it. "So, we play truth or dare, yes?"

Kitty grinned at her. Since she was offshift she was also out of uniform, though her outfit vaguely resembled a futuristic version of jeans and a shirt. There were weird pads on her knees, but she figured that was a Star Trek thing. She waggled the bottle as she came in, then sat on the bed too.

"Yes. So one person asks 'truth or dare', the other person responds with their choice, then the first person tells them the dare or asks the question. Easy!"

Jaylah took the bottle from Kitty and took a drink. She made a face. "I think we need something to mix it. You should ask me a question."

Getting up, Kitty worked the replicator until it gave her some mixing supplies. “Let me, I used to bartend when I was in college. I think I still remember how to do it.” Fancy spinning things around and everything.

“Okay. Truth or dare.”

Jaylah considered for a moment. There wasn't much she feared doing - some of it was just against regulations - but that didn't always bother her. However, she knew she had to pay some attention to regs if she wanted to succeed in Starfleet. "We start with truth," she announced, taking the mixed drink from Kitty and sipping it with a pleased expression. "Much better."

Pleased that Jaylah liked her concoction, Kitty sat back down and thought a moment. “Okay lets start with an easy one. This is kind of Truth or Dare 101. Ever been kissed?”

"How do you mean?" Jaylah asked, resting an elbow on her knee as she sipped her drink. "By parents, yes. In the way people do in the lounge, no. There was no one on Altamid I wanted to be kissing. At the academy , I focused on studying, not kissing."

"That's exactly what I mean. Not parental or friendly. Romantic. Passionate." Kitty took a sip of her drink and nodded at Jaylah. "When I went to college I mostly focused on studying too."

Relationships were messy and every one she'd had had ended badly. Her low-self-esteem-parade of losers.

Jaylah tilted her head at Kitty. "Is there a difference between romantic and passionate? What is a friendly kiss like?"

Kitty blinked her eyes. "Okay, right. Kind of? Like they usually overlap pretty heavily, but a romantic kiss has more emotion to it. It could be light and sweet, or passionate, or heavy. It's a feeling behind it. A passionate kiss doesn't have to involve romantic feelings. It's like, kissing for fun and is usually part of or a prelude to getting laid. Which is sex."

She ran her fingers through her hair. "A friendly kiss is... a kiss on the cheek? In some cultures they kiss on the lips, but there's no passion or romance involved. It's probably more like a family kiss. You were really isolated weren't you?"

"I know what is getting laid and hooking up." That had at least been explained to her at the Academy. Of course, she'd punched the person, but well, such things happened. "Feelings are… weaknesses usually."

She shrugged. "On Altamid, my father died helping me escape. I live alone after that. Sometimes I encounter Krall's men, but then I just kill them so they don't kill me or bring me back to Krall's prison. Better there to be alone than in prison. And then the Enterprise came and Jim and Scotty - we rescue the prisoners and make the Franklin fly again."

"We were traders before that.. Sometimes it is just not knowing the words for things in your language. I learned much from the computers of the Franklin, but not all."

"Wasn't sure, I had to explain tight snatch after all. And its your turn to ask me." She shrugged, face coloring pink as she wondered if Jaylah would want a demonstration of different kinds of kissing.

"I'm sorry about your dad. I lost mine too. He was helping people when it happened. I wasn't there at the time. So you were basically hunted? And the Franklin is another starship?"

Jaylah nodded. "Older and smaller than the Enterprise, but she was home." Jaylah took a sip of the drink and studied Kitty. She was curious about the kissing, but that could wait. After all, right now they were playing the game. "I ask you, truth or dare, yes?"

Kitty's eyes actually darted to Jaylah's lips for a second, before returning to her eyes. "Okay. Dare."

Truth was easier for Jaylah. After all, she was full of questions. But what was something she wanted Kitty to do. "I dare you to show me passionate kissing."

For a moment, Kitty's expression was the embodiment of the 'I don't know what I expected' meme, but she recovered quickly. "You're the only one here to demonstrate on. Just checking."

"Yes, I want you to demonstrate on me." Jaylah's gaze was fixed on Kitty. She was doing this right, wasn't she? It seemed have the point of the game was kissing or getting naked.

Jaylah was doing it right but the last time Kitty had made out with another girl she'd been way less sober. She set her drink on the end table, then crawled over to Jaylah and slid three fingers lightly across her cheek and into her hair. "Let it not be said I backed down from a dare."

The kiss was light at first, sort of like getting the lay of the land before Kitty deepened it.

Jaylah had always been a quick learner, and this was no exception. She hadn't known what to expect but she mimicked Kitty's actions, her own coming to rest on Kitty's help as she made a noise something like a moan and startled herself, pulling back and glancing down.

Kitty made her own sound, half a groan and half a protesting squeak when Jaylah pulled away. Her cheeks were red, and she looked at the wall like it was very interesting.

She sounded a little breathless, "And...that's how you kiss passionately. At least without tongue."

"How do you do it with tongue?" Jaylah asked instinctively, not letting go of Kitty. Instead she tilted her head, hand moving down from Kitty's hip to her leg.

She didn't answer with words, instead drawing Jaylah back in, the hand on her leg making her skin buzz. Kitty had always considered herself a good kisser, and an enthusiastic one. Her tongue flicked against Jaylah's lips, before she demonstrated just how good kissing with tongue could be.
Jaylah mimicked Kitty's actions, allowing the sensations to overwhelm her. She pulled back, resting her forehead against Kitty's. "You taste good. Sweet. I like it." Jaylah dove back in, kissing Kitty and trying to use what she'd seen other people do.

Jaylah didn't really give Kitty much chance to respond. She'd still been recovering when Jaylah dove back in, the enthusiasm a little overwhelming but in a way she didn't mind. She teetered over, ending up with Jaylah on top of her, then wrapped her arms around her, unwilling to break the kiss again.
