WHO: Stiles Stilinski and Allison Argent
WHEN: This evening
WHERE: Allison's quarters, then the Deck 5 Lounge
SUMMARY: Two people from the same world chat
WARNINGS: Talk of character death, character possession

Stiles felt a bit awkward around Allison, which wasn’t really surprising since he totally blamed himself for her death. Maybe it hadn’t been entirely his fault, and sure, there had been extenuating circumstances, but he still remembered every single one of the events that had led up to it. He felt weak, and pathetic, sure that Scott or one of the others would have been able to fight the Nogitsune off, and that it had chosen him because he was the weakest link. He often felt that way.

Still, he knew that he couldn’t avoid Allison. They were the only two here from Beacon Hills and that gave them a bond even if nothing else did.

So he made his way over to her quarters, and taking a deep breath, knocked at the door.

***

Knowing that her death at home was imminent made Allison’s adjustment to life on the Enterprise much easier than it otherwise might have been. This was it for her. If she ever got sent back, she would be dead. Any time she was here was a bonus. Part of her wished that her father or Lydia was here to share this time with her, but she knew she shouldn’t be greedy.

Her roommates were all nice so far, though it was definitely weird getting used to living with so many people. There was a lot to do on the ship, especially now that she’d started her training to work with the Tactical division, so she didn’t spend too much time in her quarters.

She wasn’t expecting anyone, but since no one else was around, she went to open the door and was surprised to see Stiles standing there. He’d been largely avoiding her since they arrived and, even though she didn’t blame him for her death, she understood that he was carrying a lot of guilt over it. “Hey, Stiles,” she said, managing a smile for him. “What’s up?”

***

“Nothing,” he said with a one shouldered shrug. “Just thought I’d see how you were settling in. I mean, you’re not half the nerd I am, so maybe you’re not as thrilled to be on a freaking starship in freaking outer space.”

He couldn’t stop the grin, or the twinkle in his brown eyes. But it faded quickly.

“And you know, just wanted to make sure you’re alright.”

***

“Considering the alternative? I’m pretty happy to be here,” Allison said, her mouth turning up into a rueful smile. “And, yes, I’m good. You want to come in and hang out? Or we could go up to Deck 5.”

They’d have a lot more space up there, but she didn’t know if Stiles wanted to talk about anything in particular that he might prefer to have privacy for.

***

Stiles didn’t know exactly what he wanted to talk about. Really, he just wanted to apologize over and over for what he’d done, but he had a feeling that wouldn’t go over well. He felt really awkward, but it wasn’t like that was something new.

“Why don’t we hit the lounge? It’s cool being old enough to drink.” Not that Drunk Stiles was something that anyone needed to see.

***

It was cool that she could have a drink here if she wanted. Especially since she’d never reach legal drinking age at home. “As long as I don’t have to carry you back to your quarters later,” Allison teased, grabbing her ID so she could get back into her room later.

“Have you decided what you’re going to do while we’re stuck here?” she asked. “I just started training for the tactical division.”

***

“No promises,” Stiles said, straight-faced. He wasn’t planning to get drunk tonight, but he definitely wasn’t the kind of guy who could hold his liquor. At all.

“Yeah,” he said. “I think I’m going to be a traveler liaison. I like meeting new people and dealing with the weird is kind of my thing.”

***

“That seems like a good option for you,” Allison agreed. Stiles was friendly, if a little socially awkward at times, but he would be able to explain things to new arrivals without babbling too much.

She couldn’t help but look around as they walked. Even after a few weeks, the idea of being on a spaceship was still fascinating and she noticed new things every time she went out. “Do you have roommates?”

***

“Yeah. They’re not bad. I mean, we all have our own rooms so it’s not like I don’t have privacy.”

He was worried that he’d start having nightmares again and wake all his roommates up, but so far, so good.

“What about you?”

***

Allison shrugged. It was weird living with other people, even though they did have some privacy. “Mine are all nice so far,” she said. “Kara is trying to organize a board game thing. That might be fun.”

Even if board games in this century were completely different from what she was used to, they were a good way to meet people and indulge in some friendly competition. She just had to remember to keep her competitive streak in check.

***

Stiles, of course, knew all about her competitive streak.

“No shooting people with arrows or stabbing them with Chinese Ring Daggers if they beat you though, okay? I really don’t think that would go over well. Maybe try diplomacy first?”

***

“What’s that?” Allison asked, the corners of her mouth turning up into a smirk. “Believe it or not, Stiles, I do know how to behave in civilized society.”

And thus far they didn’t have the weirdness and danger of Beacon Hills to deal with, so hopefully she wouldn’t have occasion to use any weapons. Though she couldn’t deny she was enjoying learning about some of the more futuristic options they had in the armory.

***

“I’m not sure Isaac would agree,” he teased. He wasn’t best friends with Isaac or anything, but he’d be on his side for a second to prove his point.

They reached the lounge and found a table.

“So, what do you want to drink?” He asked. “First one’s on me. As long as it’s cheap.”

***

The mention of her boyfriend made Allison’s nose wrinkle. Her ex-boyfriend? Considering that she was dead back home and the last thing he heard was her declaring love for Scott, she probably shouldn’t consider them still a couple. That kind of sucked, but unless he ended up here and she had an opportunity to apologize…

She shook her head. No point in worrying about that now. If Isaac ever did show up here, she would do what she could to make things right, but she wasn’t going to sit around and wait for him either. Not that she was necessarily interested in dating at all, but she was going to keep an open mind. And for now, she was going to focus on hanging out with Stiles.

“I’ll have a beer,” she said. “What do you think about this place so far?”

***

“Well,” Stiles said, unable to hide his inner nerd while discussing this, “I think it’s pretty awesome, being in space. I mean, it’s like it is in the movies and it’s not, but what it really is is super super badass cool.”

He grinned, but it faded a little.

“I mean, it would be better if Scott and my dad and Malia showed up, but maybe they will. That’s what i’m hoping for.”

***

Allison nodded. “I wouldn’t mind if my dad and Lydia were here,” she said. She could apologize to them for not being more careful against the Oni. “But I’m glad you’re here, Stiles. At least I have someone I know.”

It would be a lot harder if no one else from Beacon Hills was around.

***

“Yeah. I just wish…” He sighed. He just wished he’d never been possessed by the Nogitsune. That he’d never had a role in Allison’s death. But those things couldn’t be changed, no matter how much he wanted them to be.

“Yeah, I’m glad you’re here too.”
