WHO: Seven of Nine & Kathryn Janeway
WHEN: 226407.07
WHERE: D50, Seven's Quarters
SUMMARY: Catching up.
WARNINGS: N/A (will update if necessary)
STATUS: In Progress

"Come," Seven said when the chime to her quarters sounded.

Only one other person on board this vessel had unrestricted access to her quarters, and that person was not her captain, the captain of this ship, or any Starfleet officer in service within any of the varying time frames present. That privilege went to Tony Stark after a shipwide crisis left her weak and disoriented, unable to get to her alcove or a power sources that would allow her to adequately recharge her systems. He had ensured that no harm came to her — he and Lucifer both.

That was a kindness she would not soon forget.

Seven turned away from the console she'd been working at. "Captain— Or am I expected to address you as 'Commander' now that you have been reduced in rank?"

Kathryn turned up at Seven's quarters at the agreed upon time. She knew that it wasn't the Seven that she had last seen at home, this was a Seven who came from much earlier in the timeline, who hadn't experienced anywhere as much as her Seven - Anika - had. Still, it was Seven, the woman she had taken under her wings and shown her hard to be human again and not Seven of Nine.

"Seven," she said with a smile and a nod in greeting to her. "Whatever you are most comfortable in calling me." It was still hard to adjust to Commander though she was getting used to responding to it.

She knew there was a lot of things between them, a lot to talk about but Kathryn was willing to let Seven dictate what they talked about and the pace they went out.

Captain, then. It was what Seven was most comfortable with, and while she respected Captain Kirk's authority, Captain Janeway was her captain. If forced to choose between conflicting orders, Seven would follow Janeway's over Kirk's without hesitation.

"I have had to extensively modify this section of the ship to accommodate my needs," she said. "This vessel is crude, it's technology antiquated and inefficient."

Kathryn nodded. She wasn't surprised that Seven had to modify the ship or that was her opinion of the ship. Or that she would continue to call her Captain, she had and would expect it from many of her crew members if they were to arrive here. Habits were ingrained and hard to break after all.

"Yes, though it looks like you've done well. You have everything that you need?" she asked concrned.

"An alternative means of regenerating in case of emergency," she found herself saying, going on to explain: "Not long after my arrival, I became trapped in a section of the Enterprise for three days, unable to return to my quarters to regenerate. I was... disoriented, unsure of my words and my surroundings, and had difficulty remaining conscious. My cortical node was on the verge of shutting down. I did not enjoy the experience. I would like to avoid having to endure it again."

Tony had suggested sleep, but that would simply not do. At this point in her life, she was still too Borg to go without regeneration — or to fully substitute human means of rest and recharge with her Borg routines, when sleep would do nothing to revitalize her cybernetic systems.

Kathryn nodded. She knew well enough what sort of problems could occur when her cortical node stopped functioning properly. In Seven's future she had experienced problems when she had deactivated it in order to feel more emotions. So, this early in the journey, she wasn't surprised that there had been complications.

"I understand that, it mustn't have been pleasant. Do you have any ideas how you - we - could accomplish an alternative mean?" she asked more than happy to offer her assistance in the matter.

"Drones that were away from their vessels for a significants amount of time used portable device to regenerate without the use of an alcove. I aim to construct such a device, however crude the available technology may be. I have been working on adapting it using unconventional means."

Means that others would likely not approve of. She couldn't say when she developed such a temporal conscience, but it was yet another way Seven had deliberately stepped back. From removing herself from a position wherein she could potentially share revelations with a century not yet ready to hear them to carefully guarding the nanoprobes that were essential to her present existence.

"I plan on asking for the assistance of a... friend I have made on the ship. He is familiar with nanotechnology. Your assistance, Captain, would also be appreciated. I do not wish to further infect this timeline by exposing this crew or this ship to Borg technology."

Kathryn supposed that made sense though she couldn't help but wonder why she hadn't thought to ask about it before? Then there wasn't any real need for it because by the time Seven went on longer missions she wasn't having to regenerate as long. Or maybe she had one of them and she never realized? She hoped that wasn't the case, that Seven would have come to her if there was a problem. Of course, this Seven was from much earlier in the timeline than Kathryn but she appreciated the fact that she was still willing to ask for assistance of her despite all of it.

"Of course, I'd be happy to assist. Is there a part of it that you would like me to focus on or I can assist with whatever is needed at the time," she replied. She'd let Seven dictate what they did, she knew what was needed the best. She was glad she was making friends on the ship though, she had been worried about it. The first time around, she knew how hard it was for Seven to connect to the crew of Voyager though everyone eventually came around.
