WHO: Carol Marcus and Jim Kirk
WHEN: 226407.04 afternoon
WHERE: Kirk's office
SUMMARY: Expressing concerns over the project she had just been pulled off of.
WARNINGS: Talk of potential death?

Part of Carol thought that she probably shouldn't be doing this. Project Genesis had made it very clear that this project was classified, and that sharing information about it with people outside of the project could be grounds for dismissal from Starfleet. Well, Carol didn't always follow the rules to the letter, and when something left her feeling uneasy then she would do something about it. Telling Jim was probably a good move. Carol trusted him. He was high-ranking enough in Starfleet that she felt that even if there was blowback from her sharing classified information, he would go to bat for her. Compared to some other captains she'd worked with, Carol felt that he meant it when he said that the Enterprise crew was a family.

She sat down across from him in his office, glad to finally be getting this off of her chest. "Thank you for agreeing to meet with me, Captain."

Jim leaned forward a little bit. "I don't mind having them here," he told her. "Of course, I don't necessarily interact with them all that much, considering I spend more time on the decks they don't have access to. But I like the excitement of the entire situation, sure." Unlike Spock who would dump them all off on an abandoned planet and let them fend for themselves, it seemed. No, that was unfair. Spock wouldn't do that at all. He just didn't want them on the ship.

"At least they're not much of a distraction then. And they can't help it that they're arriving here." Carol assumed that Starfleet scientists were working on the how and the why regarding the travelers and she was curious to see what they had come up with so far.

"Well, I think that's it," she said, standing up. "Feel free to pass the information along to Admiral Pike." Her eyes met his and she smiled again. "I really am glad to be back with you, Captain... with the crew, I mean."

Jim couldn't help but smile right back at her. "I'm really glad to have you back too, Carol." Yes, he purposefully used her name, even though maybe he shouldn't have. He motioned into the air and nodded. "I'll pass along the info and we'll see what comes of it. In the meantime, let me know if you need anything, won't you?"

It actually felt kind of good that he was being informal with her. She had liked to think that they were on a first name basis when they were alone together, but it had been so long that she wasn't sure how to approach it. It was better to let him set the tone.

"I will. Thank you... Jim." Carol nodded and turned to exit his office.

He grinned back at her as she headed for the door. "You're welcome."
