Deck 5 Lounge

Yes, Alicia considered herself lucky for showing up with wine and cheese when she showed up. It was the best way to get to know all the best people, or so Alicia was joking about it. One among them happened to be John Crichton, Alicia had called him Engineer after he’d told her what he did, informed him it was her way of keeping everyone straight in her head as she met a few with her wine and cheese offer. Bartending was a completely different world from playing professional Quidditch, hell being on a spaceship was a bit of a shock. Her shift was wrapping up when she caught sight of the Engineer in question. “Came to keep me company towards the end of my shift Engineer?” She asked with a smile. “You know it!” John flashed a grin at his new spunky, British friend. Maybe he hadn't specifically come into the lounge looking for Alicia, but he'd quickly discovered she was a lot of fun to hang out with, even if she refused to call him by his actual name. He'd been called worse. “Think Lucifer’ll smite me if I ask you to take a break and have a drink with me?” "Well, in that case, first round is on me," she offered as she nodded. "What'll it be?" She asked. Eventually, she'd figure out everyone's drink and memorize it, but she still needed a bit more time to figure that all out. "I bet he'd be alright with it," she didn't think he would have a problem with it, and it wasn't like Alicia wouldn't hop up to help if she was needed. John thought about it for a second before asking for a beer. He was more of a beer guy than anything and he grinned when she said Lucifer probably wouldn't mind her taking a break. Getting two beers, she plopped down next to John after handing him his and putting a no-spill charm on hers. “What can I say, I talk with my hands, have a habit of sending liquid flying,” she clarified. “So!” She said after taking a sip of hers. “What sort of trouble are we all about to go find?” He laughed at that, impressed nonetheless at the show of magic. In all his travels, that much was new. Aliens and space were old hat by now, but magic? He hadn’t seen a lot of that. “Captain says that’s all up in the air,” he answered with a shrug. “I guess Sulu’ll just start flying and see what we run into. Hopefully not literally this time.” "Run into literally this time?" Alica asked narrowing her eyes as she pulled one leg up into her seat as she turned towards him. “Yeah, the ship hit some space debris a few weeks back, knocked out some systems for a few days,” he explained. “That’s why we ended up on Earth for shore leave. The ship had to dock for repairs, so they shuttled us down to the planet in the meantime.” "How often does the ship get systems knocked out? And how often is Earth in the plan?" Alicia asked leaning forward as her eyes narrowed. John shrugged at that. “That’s something you’d have to ask someone who’s been around longer. It’s only been about a month for me and that was the first for both of those things. I don’t think it’s something that happens a lot.” With a thoughtful expression, she looked over at him. "So, what's life like for you, when you aren't taken to another world in a different time to serve on a ship called Enterprise?" “I'm an astronaut,” John answered, taking a drink of her beer. “Was an astronaut. I was conducting an experiment when I accidentally opened a wormhole. It sucked up my module and spit us out on the other end of the galaxy. I've been living on a ship with a bunch of aliens since.” That was a simplified explanation, but the full truth about the past few years was a lot more complicated. "So, you have a habit of being eaten by random space things?" Alicia asked with a curious expression. "You know, I shouldn't be surprised by the whole alien thing, werewolves don't phase me, but whole other worlds with new people? New creatures? It's a lot to take in." “Yeah, it is,” he agreed. “Before all that happened, I’d never met an alien, never knew there was other life in the universe. I took me a really long time to adjust to that life.” Leaning back, he shook his head and laughed. “Getting eaten by random space things is more of a habit than I’d like.” “12 step program for breaking the Eaten by Space habit,” Alicia said with a nod of her head. “Step one, try to avoid black holes.” She said slightly jokingly given she didn’t know much about that sort of thing. “Eh, but at least this place isn’t so bad.” Chuckling, John shook his head. “No, it’s not. It’s actually pretty awesome,” he said. |
