WHO: Carol Marcus and Tony Stark
WHEN: 226406.26 Monday evening
WHERE: Deck 5 Lounge
SUMMARY: A meeting of genius science nerds
WARNINGS: TBD?

Carol was glad that she had finally adjusted enough to being back on board the Enterprise that she could find some time to be social again. Her feelings about being back were mixed. She looked forward to catching up with her friends on the crew, and the ship had always felt like home to her, but the project she had been pulled off of was very important. She had her fears about the direction it was going in. That was something she would have to voice with the brass at Starfleet HQ at some point.

For now, she wanted to enjoy being back in space and meeting all of the travelers. It was such a rare opportunity to get to know people that were totally different from her. She decided to get a drink at the lounge and sat down at the bar. After ordering a beer, she noticed that the man two seats down from her was wearing a blue shirt. Leaning over the empty seat between them, she motioned to get his attention.

"You must not work in tactical, because I don't think we've met before."

Life was still all up in the air for Tony and he had no idea what to do with himself. He'd been head over heals thrilled when the Admiral had come to talk to him about spreading himself out a bit, but the truth was that Starfleet still wanted him to pick sides between Science and Engineering. Plus, there was all that additional following orders. Pike had made it sound like it was... definitely not a party.

Everything was honestly too much to think about and he felt like he was walking around most of the time with a big black storm cloud over his head. But then he realised someone was trying to get his attention, and he smiled. "Hey. Definitely not tactical, no. I don't think they'd trust me up there. I'm in medical right now."

"No?" Carol asked with a raised eyebrow. "Dare I ask why not? You're one of the travelers, aren't you?"

She knew this place drew in all types, including some who hadn't done good things back in the times and places they were from.

"Yes, I am. Tony Stark." He held out a hand, in case she wanted to shake it.

"I used to make weapons back where I'm from, among other things. Plus, at least there, kind of an eccentric genius. Runs in the family. So no one really trusts me not to design something that'd blow the ship up. Definitely not trusted to make tactical decisions."

"Carol Marcus," she replied, shaking his hand. "You make weapons too? I suppose I help design them mostly, not make them. I've worked with torpedoes almost exclusively."

He designed weapons but couldn't be trusted to not use them responsibly? That struck her as odd and a bit dangerous.

"Used to, yeah. And killer robot AI's, apparently. Not just bad or dangerous things, though, but still. Can't really blame them for keeping an eye out." Tony replied, pulling his hand away and then shrugging his shoulders.

"So you work on Torpedoes? I've always wanted to see one of those babies up close."

"I feel like science is a very valuable tool," Carol said, "one that can be used properly or improperly. It can be very dangerous when used improperly." She had seen that happen a few times before.

"I'd be happy to show you, if you can at least be trusted to look and not touch." She had a slight smile on her face and she raised an eyebrow at him.

"The thing with Scientists is that it almost always starts with a good idea. But then you get the ego, and the mistakes, and that road to hell that's paved with good intentions." Tony said, while nodding his head. Science was a double edged sword, it was true. He'd lived that experience very recently.

Then he smirked at her. "I can't always be trusted to keep my hands to myself, but in this I probably could. It's serious business, after all."

Carol nodded. How true that was, she thought. She had seen it first hand on the project she had just been taken off of. That reminded her that she had to get Kirk for a sit down discussion.

"Yes," she agreed, "especially if I'm the one responsible. I just got reassigned to this ship and would rather not be kicked off." Carol smiled at him, letting her know that she was teasing - though she was pretty serious about him not touching the bombs. Showing him the inert one might be the best case scenario, actually.

"What year did you come from?"

"20... 14? 15?" Tony squinted and tilted his head off to the side, trying to recall. "Something around there. But my Earth was different, we had more advanced tech we were developing on some cases, compared to this timeline. Still, nothing like what there is to be had aboard here. I've had to learn a lot. Big genius over here, master of zero knowledge now that everything's so advanced."

He toasted her with his glass and then knocked half of it back before adding, with a serious tone, "But yeah. I wouldn't get you in trouble. Scout's honor."

Not that he'd ever been a boy scout. But still.
