IC/OOC Post - Pike's Ranch Excursion
Who: Open to all
When: 226405.29 (Monday)
Where: Pike's Ranch in the Mojave
What: Horseback riding, hiking, swimming, eating, etc..

All travelers & Enterprise personnel were invited to spend Monday out at Pike's Ranch in the Mojave. Shuttles were provided from San Francisco to the ranch. There's about 10-15 horses at the ranch and Pike would have been leading trail rides most of the day as well as providing info about hiking in the vicinity. (His three favorite horses are named Whiskey, Tango & Foxtrot, but there are multiple horses fit for every level of rider from beginner to advanced) There will be grilled veggies & meats for lunch, courtesy of Captain Kirk and swimming is available at the pool. Leia will be playing hostess because it's what she does.

In the evening, there would be a bonfire where Pike might bust out his guitar and sing. Also, s'mores & stargazing.

If you're the type to notice these sorts of things, you might have noticed that though Leia is at the ranch, she didn't take the shuttles out like everyone else did. She's comfortable at the ranch, and as it's in her blood as a politician and princess to play the part of host, that's the role she naturally falls in to.

Leia is warm and happy, relaxed, even, here at the ranch, and she greets everyone as she sees them, asks if they need a drink, points them in the direction of the restroom, or the pool, or anywhere else. She spends most of the day inside or outside, fluttering between the pool and the patio, and she doesn't go on any of the trail rides, so sorry but no one will be seeing the general get up on a horse.

	Also, if you're the type to notice, Pike tends to make eye contact with Leia when he can, but is extremely careful to not have any PDA. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Lucifer shook his head but didn't press the issue. Instead he mentioned how Los Angeles had been weird and he hadn't really enjoyed it, but Mexico was nice. "If it wasn't for Hawaii coming up, I'd have been tempted to get 'lost' in Mexico," he admitted. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Jim parked himself at the grill most of the afternoon, a burger flipper in one hand and a stained apron on. He hummed tunelessly to himself as he grilled, keeping the veggies and the meat separate for those people who appreciate that sort of thing. A cold beer is never far out of reach for him either, and he appreciates anyone who refreshes it for him.

With the food sizzling beside him, Jim leaned against the deck railing and sipped the beer, glancing around with a grin at those wandering by. "I hope everyone's hungry," he said, nodding to grills, which were letting off the delicious scents of burning food (but the right kind of burning, not the wrong kind).

Mary might replenish his beer for him. She'll also smile at him, but try not to be too touchy feely unless he initiates it. She doesn't think they're exactly a secret, but she gets the impression that he's not ready to tell the world yet. Her hand rests on his arm at one point while they're speaking but that's the extent of it.

When Pike tries to steal him away for a ride, Mary is there to aid in the kidnapping and go along with them. Fortunately everything she imagined about Jim riding a horse is true. He looks incredibly attractive, even if he has some hiccups at first.

That night, she sits next to him at the campfire but again keeps her hands to herself unless he invites her to touch him. Overall, it's an enjoyable day.

It wasn't easy for a half-Klingon in this time period, and B'Elanna had found herself shying away from spending too much time on excursions or in San Francisco, not wanting to invite the stares and questions. When they headed back to the Enterprise she would feel a lot better. And the invitation out to Admiral Pike's ranch wasn't one to turn down, because she knew she would be with people who already knew her and who didn't think twice about seeing the tell-tale ridges on her forehead.

She went on a trail ride and didn't get along at all with the horse she chose, but the good thing is, she didn't fall off. She also spent time at the pool and with a fruity drink on hand.

	Pike definitely spent most of the day on horseback, riding Foxtrot, who's one of his more advanced horses. He's happy to give impromptu lessons to anyone who wants them . (Reply to this)

	Shepherd Book would have gone and would have been surprised how much the Mojave reminded him of some of the planets he'd lived on. He spent most of the afternoon hiking in the desert and then sat by the pool, dipping his legs in. He also would have offered his help to Jim with grilling or any other food prep. (Reply to this)

	Lucifer went because he thought it was generous of Pike to open up his ranch and provide free food. And a pool! And he was bummed that he hadn't been able to stay in Mexico longer. "I was on the shuttle here," Lucifer mentioned. "Leia wasn't." He shrugged. "Apparently this is a heavily guarded secret and I'm not about to say anything, but you're a lucky man, and you should be aware of that."

The way both of them were acting, it was like a state secret, and maybe no one else had noticed that Leia hadn't traveled with them, but Lucifer had. He'd also caught a look or two throughout the day.

"The General and I are friends," Christopher said , giving Lucifer a look that ifrrumors of anything else were going about, he would hold him responsible. He would have to ask Leoa about Lucifer later. "I have a second chance at life. I'm well aware of just how lucky I am and do not intend to take anything foregranted.

Pike still didn't know what he and Leia were and certainly didn't plan on discussing his relationship or whatever it was with people.

"What's there to understand? They're pretty, and metaphorical allusions to the divine or the unknown or the countless numbers or any given thing that could definitely be more easily counted than them."

Lucifer shrugged, missing whatever point Pike was trying to make, but he did appreciate the idea of a campfire. "There will be singing at this campfire?" he asked, interested.

Mary & OTA

Mary finds Pike's ranch to be absolutely beautiful and she's so happy to get to ride a real flesh and blood horse again. Pike introduces her to a palomino mare whom Mary adores. She takes the tour with Pike and then later goes out again with him and Jim. There might be some showing off on her part during that time - racing, jumping and the like. Onlookers may notice that Mary looks absolutely regal on a horse and that her posture is perfect.

People may also notice that she seems to be hanging around Jim quite a bit. She's not exactly hiding that fact, though she doesn't cozy up next to him or kiss him. He's the one with the position of power on the ship, so she will let him lead, but it's clear that the two of them enjoy spending time together.

	Sulu showed up with his daughter, Demora, who is four. And adorable of course. He'd already talked to Pike about letting her ride a horse so that would have happened and he would have given it a shot as well even though he's never ridden a horse before so that would amused Demora greatly. And probably the rest of the crew as well. (Reply to this)
