______________

It was a normal morning. Jadzia had breakfast, teased one of the ensigns over her infatuation with some of the new travellers, and ran into Mako on the way to the Turbolift.

“Good morning,” She said, as if seeing Mako had only improved her mood. She grabbed the handle and twisted it. “Sciences.”

No sooner had the lift started moving, then the sound of rending metal and reverberated throughout the ship. The Turbolift tumbled around in circles and Jadzia was thrown off balance, narrowly avoiding hitting her head as she slapped her hands onto the side plating to catch herself. The lift plummeted, metal grated on metal as the emergency brakes kicked in.

The lights flickered and went out, replaced with dim red emergency lighting. Jadzia groped around for Mako. “Mako, are you all right?”

---

Mako let out a little shout when they tumbled and again when Jadzia groped. “I’m -- I am fine, thank you. Bumped my head but I didn’t lose consciousness.” Her nose also was bleeding a bit, but she just wiped it on her sleeve.

“Are you all right?”

---

“Some bruising. My tailbone will feel that in the morning.” Jadzia felt around Mako’s head, carefully inspecting for any obviously bad injuries. Her first priority was her friend. Satisfied for the moment, she leaned back against the side of the lift. It was tilted at a small angle. “I don’t know if we hit something, or if we were attacked, but power is out.”

---

Mako fought the urge to pull away, letting her superior inspect her wounds. Part of her always wanted to pull away and deal with it herself.

“Do our PADDs have flashlights? Or would that be a bad use of power? Probably. We could always call for help, though! We’ll be out in a moment. I’m sorry about your tailbone,” she added onto the end.

---

Jadzia laughed. “Thanks. I’ve been in worse, and you probably have too.”

She reached for her communicator, only to find it had been smashed to bits. Her PADD was fine, though. “Damn. Lets see if we can get a status report and find out how long we have to wait.”

The environmental systems were still working, right? They wouldn’t suffocate or freeze? Jadzia kept that thought to herself. “Last time I was stuck with someone like this was Doctor Bashir. I was pretty badly hurt but he was stubborn about keeping me alive.”

It was also when they’d finally really settled their relationship as friends as Julian accepted that that was all they would be. “Power is out on most decks and most bulkheads have sealed. I can’t tell if there’s been a hull breach, but it looks like it will be awhile.”

---

Mako let out a sigh. She didn’t mind small spaces, but she didn’t like to wait. “At least I’m in good company,” she let out a smile in the dark.

“When the Shatterdomes were losing their funding, this sort of thing happened all the time. There was a tight schedule, so people were always found quickly. Unfortunately, today is my day off, so no one will be looking for me…”

---

“Only the best company,” Jadzia joked. She shifted closer, until her shoulder was touching Mako’s. If that was for her own comfort or for Mako’s, she’d never tell.

“At least you’re not alone. And I’m supposed to get on duty soon, so there’s that. But I think the problem might be worse than a simple power outage.”

It they were stuck for longer than a few hours, Jadzia wasn’t sure what they’d do. But she did plan to conserve energy on her PADD for the time being.

---

Mako felt better, feeling a body next to her. It was dark and she felt a chill. That was when she realized she wiped blood on Bucky’s sweater. “Oh nooo...” She whispered. “I borrowed this shirt from someone.” Surely they could get stains out in this time in the world, but she still felt bad. “Have you met Bucky? He’s very sweet. Everyone here is so nice to me. I’m not sure I’m used to it.”

She was trying to pretend she wasn’t here. Pretend she was in the mess hall, having a nice conversation with Jadzia. Mako wasn’t claustrophobic, but being trapped did scare her a little.

---

“I haven’t met him personally. But i’m glad he’s nice to you. I’m sure he won’t be mad. I think we can clean it once everything is back to normal.” Jadzia could sense that Make was uneasy, if not scared.

She put her arm around her and squeezed. At least this was helping keep herself calm. Jadzia wasn’t alarmed yet, at least not for their own safety. “You’re kind and friendly. I think a lot of the travelers have their own issues with how people treat them, and don’t want to treat others the same way. And people in Starfleet, on the whole, consider everyone as having something to contribute. We like to give the benefit of the doubt, and you’re a good person, Mako.”

---

Mako smiled in the dark. At the compliment and the squeeze. “You’re a good person, too, Jadzia. I’m glad that if I’m stuck somewhere scary, it’s with you.” She chuckled, “Not that this is scary or anything…”

---

“It’s okay,” Jadzia teased. “It’s a little bit scary. But I’m glad I’m with you too. I’d have worried about you otherwise.”

Not that she wasn’t worried for the other travellers and crew, or thought Mako wasn’t capable. But she’d have worried.

---

“I would have worried about you also,” she said, teeth showing in a large smile. “I wonder how long we’ll be here? They’ll surely do a headcount, won’t they?”

---

“I’ll check in with the PADD, but we’re probably low on the priority list since neither of us is injured,” Jadzia replied. She couldn’t help teasing, and ran her fingers through Mako’s hair. “That bothered by being alone with me?”

---

Mako blushed in the dark, bowing her head slightly. “Oh-- my, Dax, I-- uh, I’m not used to being alone with anyone, really.” She didn’t move away, though.

---

“Never snuck off with a cute boy when no one was looking?” Something that Jadzia had enjoyed doing, and often. Not just boys, but she wasn’t going to assume anything.

---

“I was always too busy with work. I was a higher-ups daughter. Couldn’t get caught doing things other than getting into fights…” She smiled. “And sometimes I wish I had, there were lots of cute boys and girls where we were stationed…”

---

“Ah, I see.” Jadzia smiled, the expression barely visible in the dim red lighting. She still had her fingers in Mako’s hair. “Messing with the boss’s daughter could get you KP duty. Or worse. And I say that from personal experience. Anyone in particular you regret?”

---

“Chuck Hansen,” she spoke out suddenly. “He’s dead now,” she added quickly and quietly. “And maybe right now, I suppose. Though, there’s still time.” She reached her hand out to put it over Jadiza’s hand in her hair.

---

“I’m sorry. I know how much that can hurt” Jadzia pulled Mako closer, wanting to give her some kind of comfort. That was a pain she understood too, the sort of universal one that transcended species and boundaries. “Still time? Is there someone on this ship you have your eye on?””

---

“I meant right now, actually.” She felt comfort in being pulled close, and put her head on Jadzia’s shoulder. “Or we could just cuddle,” she said with a short giggle.

---

Oh! Jadzia laughed, letting her hand slide down to cup Mako’s cheek. “Can I kiss you?” She’d been wanting to since Tokyo, really.

---

Mako let her face move to be in front of Jadzia’s. “Yes, I’d like that a lot.” She felt silly, she felt giddy, she felt like she wanted this kiss.

---

Grinning, Jadzia pulled Mako’s face in, kissing her lightly. Mako’s giddiness was catching, and Jadzia had to resist the urge to deepen the kiss. Three centuries of kissing made her very good at it, but best not to overwhelm Mako right away.

---

It was fine that the kiss was chaste. Mako was a strong woman but completely unsure about romantic stuff. She smiled against the other woman’s lips, giggling when they pulled away to breathe.

“Wow.”

---

That giggling was adorable. Jadzia exhaled slowly, stroking her fingers across Mako's cheek. "That good? I'd hate to make a bad impression."

---

Mako got brave and let her fingers trace down the spots on Jadzia’s neck. “It was good. I’ve kissed before, but not … not for a long time.”

---

The sensation made Jadzia shiver. They weren’t strictly erogenous, but they were sensitive and she reacted well to them being touched like that. “If they’re bad memories, we could chase them away with good ones. If they’re good memories, we could add to them.”

---

“They’re just memories. I have good ones and bad ones. The kissing ones aren’t really too much of either.” Boring, really. Chuck was suddenly on her mind and she thought she was going insane-- until she noticed the shiver from Jadzia. Well, that chased him out of her mind. “Does that feel nice?” She ghosted her fingers over the spots again, from her temple to her collarbone.

---

“It feels amazing.” Jadzia tilted her head, letting Mako have more access to her spots. She was suddenly happy to not talk about other kisses, and she doubted Mako wanted to think much of them either. She traced her finger from just behind Mako’s ear, down her jaw and down her throat. “Feels like that.”

---

It was Mako’s turn to shiver. “Nice.” She smiled wide, still a little shy though. “I wouldn’t have expected this. I’m glad I got caught with you. Maybe next time we can do this in a more well-lit space,” she said with a small laugh.

---

“I’d like to see the look on your face better when I do something like that,” Jadzia teased. “I’d wager anything you’re blushing.”

---

“I’m definitely blushing, Dax,” she said flatly. She realized it came off as rude and fumbled for Jadzia’s hand. Mako laced their fingers together. “I wonder how long we’ll be down here… up … here. Whichever.”

---

Jadzia smiled at the hand, not at all upset at Mako’s response. “We’ll have an update soon. We should try to get comfortable.”

However that would end up. Jadzia was willing to be a pillow or couch if necessary.

---

Mako curled up against Jadzia, burying her face in the crook of the other woman’s neck. A muffled, “Okay,” was heard, along with the feeling of lips curling into a smile.

---

Hoping that neither of them ended up regretting this, Jadzia leaned back, wrapping her arms around Mako. Hoping to keep Mako distracted from the silence, she started to tell her all about the time she’d joined three Klingons in fulfilling their Blood Oath to avenge their sons.
