Days are good, and that’s the way it should be

“It’ll be okay. I promise.” Jadzia smiled at Susan, leaning against the wall with her duffel bag hanging off of her shoulders. “The transporter is perfectly save. A malfunction is statistically unlikely. Transportation in the 20th century was less reliable than the transporter.”

There’d always be people who hated the transporter. Jadzia understood that. One of her previous hosts had avoided it when possible. “The Enterprise has one of the safest and most advanced systems in the fleet, too.”

Susan stood beside Jadzia, the strap of a bag of her own held tightly in her hands as it rested on the floor by her feet, her eyes focused on the transporter as another group beamed down in front of them. “Statistically unlikely,” she muttered dryly, almost flinching as the people turned into tiny pinpoints of light. By Aslan, that was unnerving!

Dragging her eyes away to look at Jadzia, Su let out a quiet sigh. “It just - doesn’t look very reassuring. Are you sure this is the only way to get down there?”

“Shuttles aren’t available right now,” Jadzia told her. It wasn’t entirely a lie, but she wanted Susan to get used to the idea of the transporter. “And if something does go wrong, the safeties will kick in and we’ll be fine.”

It was nearly their turn, and Susan was still nervous, but met Jadzia’s eyes. “You’ll be with me, right? I know this seems silly to you, it’s just - it doesn’t look...like it should even be possible. It’s silly that this out of everything makes me react this way.”

“I’ll be right next to you.” She took Susan’s hand, squeezing it, then lifting it to her lips. She didn’t want Susan to feel like she was causing a scene, either, so she kept her expression light and her tone calm. “It’s all science. Quantum Physics. Human version of the technology has been usable on living beings for over one hundred years in this timeline, and other cultures have had it for much longer.”

Jadzia’s touch and the kiss that followed help to ease Susan’s nerves, and she swallowed hard, then glanced at the pad as their group was called forward. After another moment of hesitation, Susan returned the squeeze and finally nodded. “Science, of course. Well, let’s get this over with.” Squaring her shoulders, she let go of Jadzia’s hand and picked her bag up to sling it over one shoulder, then started forward to step onto one of the lighted circles where she was directed.

“Now, you might feel a tingling sensation, that’s completely normal and its kind of pleasant,” Jadzia said. “It just means you’re being broken down at the molecular level into all your atomic parts.”

Which probably wasn’t actually reassuring and she knew it judging by the grin on her face and the fact she’d timed her words just as they beamed down.

“What -” was all she had time for, eyes wide as they dematerialized. Once they reappeared on the planet’s surface, Susan reeled a little, then spun on Jadzia, eyes narrowed. “You’re going to pay for that!”

Jadzia laughed, slinging her bag over her shoulder and reaching for Susan’s. “You’ll have to catch me, first.”

With that, she took off at a jog, still laughing.

Su gaped for a moment, staring after her, then after a surreptitious check to make sure she was all there, she secured her back and started to run after her. “Jadzia! Come back here!”

Turning, Jadzia started jogging backwards, smiling in delight. “You’ll have to move faster than that, lover.”

There was something about Risa that just brought out this kind of mood in Jadzia. She was never all that serious but it was amplified without the pressure of duty and her uniform to worry about.

Her eyes narrowed and the younger woman made a face. “I thought half the point of being here was relaxing. Running is certainly not relaxing to me, and you know that.” But she did put on a little more speed, intent on catching up to Jadzia.

“If you catch me, I’m sure we can think of a few ways to relax. Or punish me.” She did slow down, but was still jogging backwards. The sun in her hair and shining on her face, and her sheer joy at being on Risa. In some ways, they were her people. Free spirited and bold. But then, there were a lot of people Jadzia would consider herself a part of.

“If?” Susan asked, eyebrows climbing. “You mean when, I’m sure.” The slower pace Jadzia had dropped to in fact made it easier for Susan to close the distance between them and - carefully - spring at her lover to send them both tumbling onto the nearby grass, and putting Susan on top as she laughed.

“See?”

Jadzia laughed, wrapping her arms around Susan as she gazed up at her. “Now this is a position we don’t get in every day. I think I like it.”

She leaned her head up, but instead of kissing her she rubbed her nose against Susan’s. “So what is it? Relaxation, or punishment? Both?”

“Mmm...I think relaxation for now. Punishment can come later.” When they were alone - because Susan was far too sensible to do anything like that in public. For the moment though, she basked in having Jadzia’s arms around her and nuzzled her shoulder lightly, before murmuring.

“We should find our...treehouse.”

“I’m sure it won’t be much of a climb.” Jadzia didn’t see much reason to move just yet. In fact, she could stay here all day. She looked at Susan the same way she might look at a new discovery, with a sense of wonder

and awe. And when down on the planet like this, only Susan and having fun (and both together) were on her mind.

“Isn’t it supposed to be some kind of pulley system?” Su closed her eyes so that she could just relax against her lover for the moment. It was nice to actually be able to do this, and have it all be real - not a facsimile created on the holodeck, as much as she loved that as well.

“What kind of things are we going to do while we’re here? I’m at your mercy, since you’ve been here but I never have.”

“Yes, and actual anti-grav lifts.” She held Su down against her and whispered something incredibly naughty in her ear about a particular ritual.

“And then when I’ve exhausted you of that, there’s a steam bath I’d like to show you.”

Susan let out a gasp as her face turned bright red at the words Jadzia whispered, and her eyes flew open to stare down at her. After a moment of speechlessness, she started to sit up, drawing the other woman up with her.

“Um. Well. Well. We should find where we’re staying...then. Now, I mean.”

“I’d love to,” Jadzia’s hand ran up Su’s side. “But you’ll have to get off of me first.”

“I’m working on it,” she told her with a grin, still blushing even as she rolled off of Jadzia, then stood and held out her hand. “Ready to go?”

She took her lover’s hand, letting herself being pulled up. She had an idea what was on Su’s mind, and as always, she got a little thrill that this woman wanted her. Which was strange enough, Jadzia never wanted for being wanted, but… those pesky emotions. “I’m ready.”
