Who: Shmi Skywalker & Leia Organa
Where: Leia's Quarters
What: Grandmother & Granddaughter meeting
When: After Risa, after Kenobi arrives (to be safe)
Rating: TBD
Status: Incomplete

Shmi had to admit that there was a lot to take in since arriving here on the Enterprise. Risa had been lovely and she enjoyed being able to explore it. She hadn't experienced a planet like that in a long time and those that she had been to hadn't come close to it. It was something she would treasure for awhile. She had put off meeting Leia though. As much as she wanted to meet her granddaughter she was having trouble coming to accept it. She wanted to settle in slightly first before doing so. Then Obi-Wan arrived which was good, even though he was a lot older than she remembered, she at least knew him.

She also knew that she couldn't avoid Leia forever.

Turning up at Leia's quarters with a bottle of replicated Wine, at at he agreed upon time, she rang the chime and waited to be let in. The technology here was both familiar and so different to what she was used too. She'd come across similar stuff on some of the more advanced planets that she'd been too but after spending so long on Tatooine it was strange to be surrounded by technology again that was this advanced. It certainly made life easier especially the replicators.

Truthfully, Leia didn't spend all that much time at her own quarters, not for a few months now, but with Chris's injury and the fact that they were his quarters, she didn't think asking her grandmother (would she even be calling her that?) to his place was quite appropriate. So instead, she made the common area in the quarters she shared with Diana look a little better and looked up when the chime rang.

She crossed the room to manually open the door, a pleasant smile on her face as she greeted the woman who was Anakin Skywalker's mother. "Shmi," she said. "I'm Leia. Come in, please."

Shmi had to admit she was surprisingly nervous about meeting Leia. She had come to terms that she had family here, was in fact over the moon about it, but she knew there was so much she didn't know. She wondered what Leia knew of her, she hoped it was good things. She wondered who their mother was, she knew that Jedi's weren't allowed to marry... There was so many questions she had, so many answers she needed to know she didn't know quite where to begin.

"Thank you, Leia," Shmi said stepping inside. The quarters were much the same as the ones she had been assigned. "It's wonderful to finally meet you."

"It's good to meet you too," Leia said. She gestured to the sofa, for Shmi to make herself more comfortable. All of her years of royal upbringing and politics made this somewhat easier. She wasn't uncomfortable, per se, though she barely knew a think about this woman who was her grandmother.

"Settling in all right?" she asked, knowing from her own experience that it had taken some getting used to. "And I'll get straight to it, too. You can feel free to ask me anything you want to, and I'll do my best to answer it. Whether that's about being here or - about me and everything back in our universe."

Shmi found herself taking in Leia and the way she behaved. She certainly wasn't raised in poverty or slavery. She was correct in that there was an air of confidence and something else about her. Her mother must have been someone of standing because she couldn't imagine it having come from the Jedi. They wouldn't have allowed Anakin to raise them. Did he even know they were his children? Captain Solo said enough to make her think that he was aware, though their mother could have passed on that information to the twins.

"Thank you," she said with a soft smile. "It's interesting I shall give you that but once I came to terms with it, it is not too bad here. I enjoyed Risa though, it was a long time since I've seen a planet like that," she admitted. "Honestly I don't even know where to start. There are so many questions that I would like to know. Perhaps you could tell me about yourself?" she asked curiously. "I'm happy to answer any questions you might have of me too. I do not know how much your parents would have told you," she replied simply.

Leia sat, her back straight, trying not to look as formal as she was feeling. This should be easy - kriff, it was possible that she was older than Shmi was at this point herself, not that Leia wanted to give much thought to that. She rubbed her cheek gently. "To be frank, I don't know much about you at all, which I know is probably not something you want to hear or thought you'd here. But I've learned many times over the years that it's better to just be direct and get it all out there." She gave Shmi what she hoped was an easy smile.

Talking about herself was easy. "Well, there's a lot to talk about, if you want to know more about me. Name's Leia Organa. Married name was Solo but I didn't take it. I was raised on Alderaan and was a junior senator in until the Emperor dissolved it. I spent much of my life rebelling agains the Empire and then, once we won, got back into politics for a while until I had to form a resistance against the First Order."

Shmi honestly wasn't too surprised by what Leia was saying. She had half expected it, to be honest. "Anakin did leave that life behind. I know he returned but I was his past, a past he wanted to escape from in many ways so I do not blame him for not speaking of it. Even if he was a part of your life. I know the Jedi aren't supposed to marry or have children so I'm aware there might have been a chance he wasn't involved?" she questioned hesitantly.

"I do appreciate the bluntness though, knowing where we stand is good and saves us from dancing around issues," she replied simply.

"Han Solo is your husband?" she asked curiously. "I've spoken to him a couple of times on the network. Though you're not his Leia? He said something to that effect when I arrived here." It hadn't made sense at the time but it had slowly started too. "Empire and First Order? I don't know if I've actually come across those terms yet," she said trying to remember what exactly she had been told.

"He wasn't involved," Leia said. Though she didn't elaborate, her face did tighten a little when she spoke, and she cleared her throat before moving on with a nod. "Was my husband, yes. Not this one. There seems to be a split in the timeline, two different universes. It doesn't make any sense, but the Han Solo that's here isn't the same one that I married." And lost. But that was neither here nor there.

Leia pressed her lips together. "Well, I'd imagine that the Empire hadn't existed yet where, when you're from. I'm sorry. That must be a little confusing."

Shmi frowned at that. She didn't like the thought of her granddaughter's husband - that was certainly an odd thought - not being involved with the raising of her family. Assuming that they had children of cousre. "That's both interesting highly odd but this entire situation is odd," she mused. "Did you have a family of your own?" she asked curiously.

"No, we still have the Republic," she confirmed. "How did the Empire come about anyway? I didn't imagine there were many problems with the Republic though we didn't get much news on Tatooine."

"You'll get used to it," Leia said. "Or at least, you should. It's incredibly different from what I'm sure you're used to, especially on Tatooine. But it's also easy to get comfortable. I feel -" she stopped, hesitated a little bit here, " - like I can be someone completely different here than I have to be at home."

She nodded. "Yes. My husband and I have a son, Ben."

Again, Leia hesitated, only slightly. "Emperor Palpatine took control of the Republic and rebuilt it as an empire, with a sith lord at his right hand."

Shmi nodded as she listened to Leia speak. It made sense to her and she had already started to adapt. It was odd, there was no denying it but it was surprising at how quick she had got used to it? Perhaps if she had spent her entire life on Tatooine it might have been different but before she had arrived she had seen plenty of other planets. It might have helped.

"That makes sense. Finding who you are, outside of the constraints of your previous life would be challenging. It took me some time to adjust to being free," she admitted then paused for a moment. "You do know that I was a slave?" she asked hesitantly.

"A strong name. I'm sure he was a wonderful boy," she said with a smile. If what she had seen of Leia was anything to go by she couldn't see him being anything but.

"Chancellor Palpatine?" she asked in surprise.

For Leia, this conversation was more difficult than she anticipated. Half-truths, not wanting to upset Shmi, considering that what Vader did held no bearing on Shmi now, here. She pressed her lips into a tight smile and nodded. "Yes, I knew that. I also knew you were eventually freed. There isn't any slavery here, either, so I hope that you'll be able to live whatever life you want while you're here."

She hesitated. "Ben was, yes," she said carefully. And it was true. Her son, Ben Solo, had been a wonderful boy, a wonderful son - until he wasn't.

Shmi was relieved to hear that. She had pretty much guessed that Leia wasn't telling her everything but she wouldn't push Leia for the full story. If she wasn't telling it then perhaps she didn't want too and she didn't want her granddaughter (that was taking some getting used to even now) feeling uncomfortable.

"Thank you for telling me that," she said with a smile. "I hope to someday meet him if we're all here still. I'd love to here more about your life and what you did if you don't mind telling me?" she asked curiously.

Her life. Leia thought that would take an eon to go over everything. "I was raised on Alderaan," she said, "and I followed my father into politics. And then I joined the Rebellion and have spent the rest of my life fighting for peace and democracy in our galaxy." So basic, this overview of her life, but it was a start.

Shmi nodded listening. "It sounds like you accomplished a lot. Did you at least enjoy it?"

"I did," Leia said. "Not always the bad, but the good was pretty good."
