"I have plans for those bol-- um, no thank you. Not the best idea," she said, turning her face to the shelf of wand polish and cleaners she was tidying so he couldn't see her blush. "I suppose I could simply tell them the truth. Mother, Father, I love you and respect your opinion, however I am not ready to consider marriage until after I've finished my schooling," Pansy tried it on for size and winced. "Words to be closely followed by being locked in my room and told that I am to accept the moment you ask and that's final." So not such a good plan.
As far as her parents were concerned, now that they had Pere as the male heir, she was to be married off as advantageously as possible, as soon as possible. Pansy bit her lip as the old resentment threatened to bubble up. She'd been the apple of her daddy's eye until her brother was born six years ago. Now she was simply something to be dealt with and her entire value was wrapped up in what sort of alliance she could make. Pansy supposed it could be worse. Her parents might have decided that the Malfoy family's standing made Draco a bad prospect instead of insisting the Malfoys would bounce back stronger than ever.
