"And what's wrong with that? Maybe I want to be ogled." Hannah knew she sounded like a petulant child, but the months, no, years of frustration with Ernie was just too much. She'd fancied him off and on for nearly eight years, not that he'd ever noticed, of course. Being in an 'on again' fancy stage as Hannah had termed it in her mind, just made this whole thing infinitely more frustrating.
Hannah deflated a little- of course Ernie would miss her point. He was treating her the only way he knew how.
"I know." She sighed, wishing for once Ernie would hear what she was saying without her having to spell it out for him. It wasn't an entirely fair desire, as Ernie wasn't dim or void of sensitivity.
"I just..." Hannah didn't know why she was still talking. Ernie was just being protective, and she couldn't be angry with him for not reading her mind.
