Summary: Sofia receives some alarming news.
Sofia heard someone floo in, gasping. She hurried in from the library to see Liam in the sitting room. He looked ragged, exhausted, and scared. She couldn't be more confused, "What happened?" she asked worriedly. "Where's Dad? Wasn't he with you?"
Liam looked surprised to see her, "They let me go, 'Fia but Dad..." He collapsed in to a chair and shook his head. "They're holding him, Sofia. There were witnesses that saw him kill a student, 'Fia... I think they're going to charge him..." He looked shocked.
She stepped back, as if trying to make the truth of Liam's words go away. "You mean..." Sofia swallowed. Charge him for murder... They'd hold him in Azkaban, they'd sentence him to Azkaban. "Is there nothing we can do?" She looked down the hall, wondering for a moment what they would tell their mother when she got home. All this time Sofia had worried Liam or her father might've been killed only to find out that her father would suffer worse than death. "We have to do something, we can discredit the witnesses!"
He shook his head again, burying his face in his hands. "They've already arrested him, they saw his mark... " Liam stood up and hugged his sister, "I'm sorry I couldn't help him escape. If-" he swallowed hard, "What if someone saw me?"
Sofia felt her eyes well up with tears at the prospect of never seeing her father again, outside of a cage. He didn't deserve this, he'd fought for a just cause. She'd never been a supporter of Voldemort, per say, but now she felt betrayed by him. He'd led her father down this path and abandoned him. She stepped back from Liam's embrace. "I-" she blinked a few times, still shocked by the news. "I need to go." She walked briskly from the room, up the stairs, and quietly closed the door to her room. Sofia cast a silencing charm around the room and sat down on her bed, almost feeling numb.
On her bedside table sat a picture of her father, his arms around Sofia. She sobbed softly. Mudbloods were to blame for this. And whoever that witness was... Sofia would make them pay. No one could do this to her family and not pay the price. She laid back on her bed, curling up quietly and crying. What would she do without her father's wisdom and guidance? Who could she trust to stand up for her when mother tried to marry her off to some dolt? "Daddy," she whispered quietly, staring at the photo through her tears.
