Summary: Percy escapes from the office for an hour.
Percy had to get out of the office, even if it was only for lunch. It was definitely turning out to be one of those days. One of those weeks really. Work was piling up, and no matter how much they all did - it didn't seem to get them anywhere. At the end of the day Percy's in-tray was still half full and by the beginning of the next it was overflowing again. As well as the workload being stressful, it was distracting him from his job hunting. He hardly had the energy to think about anything else.
Percy decided he wanted a complete change of scene and Apparated to Hogsmeade. Perhaps he would take a walk down memory lane and go to Madam Puddifoots, or there was always that little coffee shop further down the street. He was still deciding where to go when he spotted a For Rent sign on Between the Lines. The previous owner must definitely not be coming back, Percy thought.
He walked up to the darkened window and tried to see inside. During the war, when things got really bad at work, he used to dream about working here. It had seemed like it would be such a great job. Surrounded by books, and all you had to worry about was the occasional customer. It had been a comforting daydream to retreat into. But he had always known that it was only a daydream. He had thought his job far too important to leave to work in a shop, even if it was a bookshop.
Percy paused and stepped back from the window of the shop. The dark shop interior was matched by an overcast day outside and he couldn't really see anything. He shook his head to himself as his imagination started working overtime. It was a silly idea.
He couldn't-
He hadn't the first idea-
He shook himself out of his thoughts and carried on down the street. But his treacherous mind insisted on showing him his daydream over and over. Percy behind the counter of a bookshop, reading a book, stocking shelves, making recommendations.
Well, it wouldn't hurt to make enquiries would it? It wouldn't hurt to ask.
