Well that was...something
Date & Time: 1st June 1998
Post Type: RP
Open To: Private
Character(s): Dean Thomas, Ginny Weasley
Location: Hogwarts, Great Hall.
Summary: After getting back from the Ministry Dean bumps into someone unexpected.
Dean walked back up the path to Hogwarts not quite sure what mood he was in. He was happy, of course he was, but after all this time and what had gone on the little goal from the end of his sixth year at Hogwarts seemed such a small, insignificant achievement in so many ways. Still, it was nice to finally be official. Time to head to the Great Hall for a snack, maybe the elves had put out some cake he could use as a celebration.
Earlier that day
Dean had approached the visitor's entrance to the Ministry of Magic with a slight pit of nervousness in his stomach. Frowning he had stepped into the phone box as directed by his test letter. The voice had made him jump slightly, disembodied voices were not something you expected from phone boxes, even if you had just dialled a code on the phone.
As the phone box spat him out again in the entrance hall he had been rather surprised at just how large the place was. How many things had the Wizarding World concealed in the centre of London? He had been very thankful that the man on the security desk hadn't asked too many questions about his wand and had allowed him to keep it. He felt so lost without a wand, regardless of whether it actually felt like his or not, he needed the protection it afforded.
His nerves had grown as he travelled to the sixth floor, or level, or whatever the Ministry was calling these underground rooms. Although the windows helped with that. Exiting the lift he followed the helpful signs to the Apparition test centre and produced his letter to the welcoming wizard at the desk.
Half an hour later he was being handed his official license to apparate by the examiner. The man hadn't questioned why he was only now taking his test too closely, nor was he questioning his ability to apparate without the very careful consideration Dean had seen on most of those who had been up to test time and standard by the end of the Ministry course.
He had celebrated by buying himself a new t-shirt from one of the markets in Camden, and chinese food, something he missed when he was at school. He cut his jaunt on the tube short though as he looked at the map and spotted the nearest stop to his home. That had welled up a sick feeling in his throat and he quickly exited at the next stop and hurried to find himself somewhere quiet to call the Knight Bus. He only went a short way though, a couple of jumps, getting out and using his new-found freedom to apparate from the outskirts of the sleepy village he'd once raided for food to the gates of Hogwarts.
Back in the Great Hall
One weight off his mind, maybe now that niggling feeling of something he had done wrong, or was doing wrong would go away. No more breaking the law to move from place to place. He imagined 'I wanted to save my life' wouldn't have gone down well with the Ministry at most points, although maybe the new regime might have forgiven him. No need to worry any longer though. He had permission to apparate wherever he wanted. Although he had been warned to build up distances slowly, but he'd managed well enough already, he wasn't about to attempt international apparition though, probably never would.
He was pleased to head towards the snack tables though. The juice would be welcome before he headed out to make use of himself in the greenhouses again. And there was cake, and chocolate cake at that. Either someone had tipped the elves off or he had just got very lucky. Perfect celebration food, regardless of how much like celebrating he did or didn't feel.
