Cho had to smile as Harry speculated aloud that owl correspondence might be nice. After everything that happened between them, and more importantly in the world these last few years, she was glad they could now find themselves at this point. She felt her smile widen in response to Harry’s playful grin. “Perspective is good.” She didn’t yet know what direction life would take her but it felt good having a moment to see Harry like this.
As Harry spoke of his time as a child staying with the Weasley family, Cho had a better appreciation of exactly how much they had come to mean to him over the years. They had taken him into their home and treated him like one of their own. It was no wonder Harry loved them like he did. The Weasleys sounded like the kind of close families she’d read about in novels. Her own parents had always seemed reserved even with her and her brother.
Even though Fred’s death must be like losing a brother for Harry as well, his concern was still focused on the others. That didn’t surprise her about him, but Cho hoped he would take time for himself in addition to looking out for everyone else. “You’re probably helping more than you know just by being there,” she said quietly as she forced thoughts of her own family to the back of her mind.
Cho knew Harry and Luna were friends, and smiled as she nodded at his questions. “Yes, Luna and I have been getting to know each other better these last few weeks.” She was finding Luna’s whimsical behaviour to be genuinely endearing but she was also just as impressed by her resilient strength of character. “We worked together some, securing Hogwarts after the battle.” It was the events in the library that day which had been the beginning of some sort of mutual rapport between them. When they had both found themselves staying in the Hufflepuff dormitory, it had seemed a natural move to room together. Harry’s observation about Luna was one Cho believed would be true. She nodded in agreement as she said, “Luna is a lovely person. I’m really enjoying spending time with her.”
She accepted his thanks but insisted, “I’m sure you’ll do fine.” Her advice had only been from her own experiences but she truly believed he could handle the situation well. “Your instincts are better than you think, Harry.” She had become so caught up in talking that she had almost reached out to touch his arm before she stopped herself.
Cho tilted her head as she looked at Harry, her smile now a bit self-conscious smile. It had been quite a while since she’d felt at ease enough to get carried away talking like that. “This has been nice, Harry. Thanks for taking the time to talk and get caught up with each other.”
