Who: Thor and Torunn
What: Father-Daughter reveal
Where: Dragon's Breath
When: May 14th
Warning: Conversations about child abandonment.

This afternoon made Thor’s second visit to the Dragon’s Breath Pub in the first 48 hours of his displacement via the Time Rift. While the location was the same, this occasion found the Asgardian seated at a booth opposed to the bar. Additionally, there was a much different volume and tone. Despite the hustle and bustle of the establishment, one that Thor could only assume to be commonplace at this point, the aforementioned booth was quiet. Nearly silent. Perhaps the most obvious difference however, was the company being kept. Instead of being grilled by an inquisitive Doctor (Who?) ready to compare Thor’s Asgardian upbringing with the legends as told by Norse Mythology, Thor sat across from a fellow Asgardian. One who had only recently dropped quite a bombshell on the dimension-traveling-former-prince.

Thus, the silence. The type that probably lasted mere moments but felt like forever, growing more awkward with each passing second. Thor looked down at a half-eaten sandwich on the plate in front of him. Bacon, lettuce and tomato, with a few secret ingredients. It was quite delicious, honestly. Thor never really ate for sustenance. His Asgardian physiology allowed him to endure go long periods of time without food or drink, so whenever he partook in either it was purely for pleasure’s sake. But the silence kept him from indulging in this moment. Instead, all he could do was process. Torunn, the lovely fellow countrywoman who Thor was looking forward to sharing tales of Asgard, had a much more complex story to tell. And Thor was a part of it. A very unfortunate part. At least, her version of Thor was. And while the story she told might not have directly involved him, it didn’t stop her words from landing so close to home.

“Torunn… I don’t really know what to say. Mostly because I know nothing I can say can change what happened to you. Or change how much me being here might remind you of it.”

He was torn. Part of him felt connected to her. Not just paternally, but also the circumstances through which they both were now separated from their respective families. At the same time, her circumstances involved … him. He couldn’t blame her for hating him. He wanted to hate him. The other him. But that wouldn’t help the situation either. But one thing he could do right now was listen. And that is what he would do. And he’d wait as long as it took for her to respond. Even if it meant shutting the bar down.

“... but I am here, if that is what you desire.”

Torunn didn't want to lay expectations at Thor's feet. She felt similar with Tony, but Tony and Morgan had welcomed her pretty easily. She felt fortunate to have them and the few friends she made in her new reality. Still, having a version of her father so near made her stomach flip-flop. She made him proud once, but she nearly killed herself doing so. She thought she'd disappoint the current Thor across from her too.

She had a chicken platter in front of her, but it was mostly uneaten as she spend the first few minutes recounting the tale of her upbringing. "I'd love to get to know you," she admitted carefully, "but I don't want you to feel like it is something you need to do. I understand you don't know me, but even having you as a friend would be nice, I think."

"I can assure you, you'll have that, Torunn. We have too much in common not to be friends." It felt a little obvious to point out their similarities, but aside from his paternal inclinations, he felt an urge to know how another Asgardian came to find a home on Midgard. He looked forward to connecting with her on that level.

Despite his casual dress, Thor's posture remained perfectly upright, even while sitting down. Palm softly pressed against his chest, a gesture showing the earnestness of his words. Maintaining eye contact with Torunn and allowing himself a moment to observe her mannerisms. It was easy to see how the two of them could be related. Blonde hair, bright blue eyes and bold prescenes gave the pair a striking similarity. But the more he watched the way she carried herself, the way she spoke, the more he began to see Sif. It was a curious sense of familiarity indeed. Folding his arms over his chest with a grin as he moved the conversation forward.

"Tell me about the Avengers on your realm. I assume you're the strongest among them?"

Torunn felt Thor meant his words, which went a long way in calming her nerves. She relaxed and ate some of her food finally. She couldn't help smiling when he asked about the Avengers in her time. "Well, there is Tony, Bruce, and Vision, from the original team," she told him. "My siblings and Francis call ourselves the Next Avengers. We all have different talents, but naturally I'm strongest." She wasn't even bragging; her Asgardian powers were tough to beat. "James is apparently a lot like Steve. At least Tony always said so." She was getting to know the Steve here and she could see the similarities too. "Azari is a mix of his parents and Pym is too."

That sly grin cracked open to become a smile, and Thor could do little but allow the smile to spread from ear to ear. First, at hearing mention of the next generation of Midgard's defense being reared under the guidance of familiar faces. "The Vision lives on. That's fantastic to hear." He wasn't sure how much Torunn knew of the android's fate in Thor's timeline, and that would have to be a conversation for another time. He was equally delighted to learn the identities of her team mates.

"The Next Avengers. It does have a ring to it."

He took Torunn's words as matter-of-fact as the delivery with which she said them. It wasn't boasting, it was the truth. Nevertheless, he did feel a sense of pride in knowing how present the might of Asgard was in the girl. "It fills me with joy to know you're using your talents to defend Midgard. The people of earth may be strange at times, but they deserve our protection. If there's anything I can do to oversee with your training while we are here, it would be my pleasure."

Thor's smile was contagious so Torunn grinned as well. "We nearly lost him, but we grabbed his head and took it on the run with us. Tony fixed the rest." She leaned back in the booth, an obvious sign she felt more at ease with the man across from her. "I"d like that," she admitted. "I've been training here, but it is different on my own. I'm used to having Tony and my siblings. Steve showed me where the gym was."
